I have 2012 jeep wrangler and she has been amazing... 97,113 miles and we are having our first fight... And i am pretty sure she is out of warranty lol.

But i have changed out the sensor on the left 3 times and shortly after traveling over a bumpy or rough road poof, check engine comes on and skid control... Then i have no power and i crawl to get to the speed limit and it takes all we have to keep it... I have made an appointment for but i am not confident in our jeep place... As far as the service dept is horrible.. Not sure if there is anything i can do or just suck it up and take it in.

It could be a multitude of problems.
- cam sensors marked with a "D" were bad from factory
- Oil Galley bolts loose, behind the cam phasers on the front of the valve cover
- will cause worn valve guides on the front, listen for an engine tick at idle
- and even the head warping and causing even more trouble.
- cam phasers themselves could be loose too.

Some diagnostics can help narrow down the problem.
- if a new sensor is not fixing it
- check the thing that it is sensing
- check the wiring back to the computer
I did these diagnostics on the passenger side cam sensor and found a broken wire inside the plastic sheath.

Edit: some more quotes
If the cam sensor is stamped with a part number that starts with "D" it needs replaced. (TSB 18-054-14)

There is a (TSB S1618000050) for the oil gallery bolts getting loose. This can lower oil pressure to the cam phasers and valve train, which could cause some big problems in time. Just pop off the valve covers and tighten the two bolts on the front of the head behind the timing chain phaser, to 9 ft/lbs. (Oil control valve 110ft/lbs)

There is an extended warranty (D-14-12) for heads that are labeled "AB" if they warp and burn out the first valve guide, causing all sorts of damage, and sounding like a tick. Head casting marks right above the exhaust pipes 2062X and lower.

THANK YOU so much for the help... I went ahead and took it in to the Jeep dealership because I was getting nervous with it going into limp mode. I was a bit bummed because I have 97K on my jeep and the warranty is 100K but my time has expired. I will send a list of what they said it was but long story short $1100 later they called and said there is a sensor underneath the intake manifold that they needed to replace and some wiring that seemed to be questionable. I do not actually get to pick her up until hopefully Friday fingers crossed and I am hoping that this will fix the issue. However I really appreciate the reply!!! If this doesn't get it then I will do what you suggested. I need to update the pictures as I have done a lot with her.

Seriously - how do you charge for no solution! Jeep odessa is horrible

My jeep sits in the shop one full month, i received one call saying we are going to replace the sensor pick it up on friday... Friday comes and goes... I call and i am literally told, from the service tech, the mechanic has no idea what it could be but i will keep you posted, 2 weeks go by and nothing.. I go up there 6-26-19 for them to say you need a $7500 motor... So i asked how do you go from changing a sensor to not knowing to a whole new motor... He could not answer the question, so i said i will take it home.. This dealership charged me $1124 to do absolutely nothing!!! Nothing i wanted to cry because i did not have $1124 to dish out for nothing. My jeep is exactly as it was when i took it in. I am at a loss for words because i love my jeep and i have to keep telling myself these are just horrible business and it is not necessarily jeep as a whole... But if at any point if i thought about walking away from jeep it would be now.. I am still so shocked.

I was plagued with the same issue for too long. I replaced the sensor and reached out to numerous sources, but the best advice I received and finally convinced my shop to check was the wiring to the sensor. It was corroded and only a couple strands were intact creating that intermittent open as I went over bumps in the road getting Check Engine Light and Traction Control Light.

Hope this helps.
