Hello. I have been searching endless threads and videos to try and figure out how to get my Steering wheel controls working with my new Corehan Android head unit and there is so much conflicting information when it comes to the PAC interfaces I am completely confused. Maybe someone can help me out?

I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sport (no bells and whistles. No factory bluetooth, no factory amp, no navigation...). However, I just recently installed an Android head unit with all those bells and whistles and everything works fine…..except the steering wheel controls.

I understand there are a total of 3 PAC modules that people have been using , the SWI-RC & AC C2R-CHY4, or the RP4-CH11 which combines both.

My question is….for my situation can I get by with the SWI-RC ONLY?
I only want my steering controls back. My headunit comes with its on CAN BUS, so I am thinking I dont need the AC C2R-CHY4 portion.

And if I do need the additional PAC C2R-CHY4 (or RP4-CH11), can someone explain to me exactly what I need these for? I am under the assumption it is basically just doing what my CAN BUS that came with my head unit is doing.

Thank you in advance!

I think I responded to this in another thread, and I'm not expert, but I have used all of these pieces.

I believe this is correct:

RP4-CH11 which combines both
i believe the PAC C2R-CHY4 is just for hooking up a head unit, and not having steering wheel controls. But if you have that and want to add steering wheel controls, you add in the SWI-RC, which plugs directly into the PAC C2R-CHY4.

However, instead of connecting those two, you can just use the RP4-CH11 which provides a cleaner install.

If your Corehan already has a Canbus adapter, but does not allow the steering wheel controls, I do not believe the SWI-RC can be spliced into it to make it work. I mean i guess it is possible, but I doubt you will find anyone with that experience, or any kind of guide. At this point you are looking for a very unique scenario with a relatively niche product.

Plus there could be some kind of communication between the PAC C2R-CHY4 and the SWI-RC that the Corehan is unable to replicate.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find another human being that has installed more Android head units in a Jeep than me. I would recommend you either get the C2R-CHY4 connect it to your SWI-RC and splice that into your Corehan harness, or see if you can return the SWI-RC and get a RP4-CH11

You would be much better off if Corehan could give you an extra harness that you can cut up so you have a backup plan if the PAC doesnt work, but sometimes that is hard to communicate with the language barrier.

After a ton of research and back and forth with PAC I finally got an answer on ONLY retaining steering wheel controls without altering any of my audio connection feeds by going with the RC/AC C2R-CHY4, or the RP4-CH11 route.

Apparently if you ONLY want steering wheel controls (which I did) then the module to get is the PAC SWI-CP5, which is also 3 times more expensive than the SWI-RC. The SWI-RC seemingly wasnt engineered to work without its counterpart PAC CAN BUS module in a Jeep, which i thought was crappy.

So in the end I went with the Metra Axxess ASWC-1. It was worlds easier to connect and their instructions took me all of 5 minutes to understand instead of the PAC which took me weeks to figure out that what I needed wasnt achievable considering the way it was developed. The ASWC-1 is all in one. No additional Axxess specific CAN BUS, no rerouting all your audio through it and losing fading and EQ features.

Anyone reading this trying to ONLY retain steering controls with an advanced headunit that already has its own CAN BUS, do yourself a favor and get the Axxess ASWC-1.

If you have a less advanced head unit without its own CAN BUS or you have additional upgrade Jeep features you are trying to retain then maybe the PAC solution is the way to go in a Jeep.

Honestly...for a head unit with a jeep specific CAN BUS you probably dont need either. But I wasnt too keep on guessing which steering wires to splice inside the steering column. My luck, id have a face full of airbag. :pc-ouch:
