Are the PCM'S interchangeable on the 06 Jeep Wranglers with a 4.0 liter and Jeep Wranglers with the 2.4 liter? On ebay I am in the process of purchasing a PCM and their saying it's interchangeable. That it will work on both the Jeep with the 4.0 and the Jeep with the 2.4. Is that true?

So anybody out there know how to correct my CodeS P0032 and P0038shoeing up causing my check engine light to come on, then go off then come on again time after time. I replaced the 02 Sensors with NTK sensors and changed the Air intake sensor, but still the engine like comes on sporadically. The engine is running fine.

Look can we focus on the Problem at hand and not this silly child rhetoric? I was going to have autothe Key on/off 3 times was P0032 and P0038. Sure as the earth is round that is what their little machine shows. Well after I left there not a mile down the road the check engine light goes off. I drive about 10 miles and the darn light comes on again. I have checked for shorts in the wires, replaced the 02 Sensors with NTK OEM replacement sensors, replaced the Air intake sensor and bought some electrical contact Cleaner to spray on the plugs going into the aluminum box on the Firewall, what I am being told is the PCM also known as the ECM and that the same box houses the ECU. Am I correct on that part? Hope so. So what am I to do . Anyone ever had this is and were to rectify or correct, repair or fix the Problem and if so please Share.

Nope company in Florida that has made a business of replacing NGC PCM for 05-06 TJ

They can discuss if problem is consistent with a PCM issue and price a programmed PCM that is plug and play

Worth the discussion on phone regardless of what you decide to do about it

Me I would never elect to own a05-06 TJ but have delt with endless o2 heater sensor codes on same pcm in turbo pt cruiser
One pcm was high voltage and limp mode until reset
Next with replacement pcm was constant low voltage codes
Finally company I used flagship one sent me one that has been good for a couple years

Have owned this PT cruiser since new so know the issue well

Most folks around here swear by wrangler fix but I have no experience with them

Jeep dealers pulled plug on dealing with this issue long ago

Trust what Digger says. I will add some & some is repeating what he has already told you.

On ’05 & ‘06s with those codes (P0032 & P0038) the most common solution is replacing the PCM. (Yes, PCM/ECM/ECU, etc. are all the same thing, just different terminology.) If you search those codes you will find a lot of data & see what Digger & I am saying (the 4.0L will have those plus 2 more since they have 4 O2 sensors, same problem though). I will say that most, if not all, will be constant not intermittent so not sure if that changes anything.

Those codes can also be caused by a wiring problem but if it always throws both codes at the same time & never just 1 of them that is a very good indicator that the PCM is the problem. About the only other thing would be possibly a bad grounding connection. The heater elements both ground to the engine block along with several other wires so if there are no other issues which might be caused by a bad ground from the same point it is unlikely a grounding problem. On your 2.4L the grounding bolt is near the left motor mount. You could check that & be sure the connection is tight & terminals are clean (remove them to check & clean).

All (left hand drive) TJs have their PCMs mounted to the firewall on the passenger side above the battery. The PDCs are in front of the battery.

Chrysler went to their NGC (Next Generation Controller) PCMs in TJs for ’05 & ’06 models. The NGC version was to have compatibility across the entire Chrysler line. So basically all NGCs are the same prior to programming & can be used in any model. They are also somewhat prone to throw the high (or low) O2 heater voltage codes (as you have) as well as hard shifting problems on the ones with automatic transmissions. Both are mostly caused by internal failures in the PCMs.

Chrysler has discontinued supplying unprogrammed NGCs called “generic” as I recall which had previously replaced supplying specific pre programmed ones. It was supposed to be up to the dealers to program them as needed. As long as the one you get is programmable & has been programmed to your specific vehicle you should be OK.

It appears from info you posted in post #3 that you are considering using ecmoptions for a replacement PCM. I have not seen any info posted about ecmoptions but wranglerfix has had reported success with their replacement PCMs by other members here.

I can’t recommend anyone except to say that the only source I have seen with so far no negative feedback on these forums is Wrangler Fix. You should contact him.
There have been several failed wranglerfix computers. If all NGCs are prone to fail then how could you trust any compatible junkyard pcm. RUBI, I know you're a smart guy. What if I sent you an 06 PCM and you cracked it open for research??? My LJ is getting a Holley Dominator anyway. Aftermarket ECU is the way to go unless someone can find the smoking gun. There will be a bunch of new goodies available for Jeep 4L owners in February. A cam/crank sync kit for use with Holley ECU's, two new stroker cranks and new rods all from Eagle!!! Pistons too, I'm pretty sure, God bless America.

God bless you. Finally someone explains to me so I can understand. Thank you. I probably need to replace the PCM. The trouble is Finding one for a standard transmission. May you can help me find one that’s for a standard six speed transmission? I’ve been told that can’t be real built, back from others I’ve been told they can be refurbished with a lifetime warranty so any direction there I would like to go ahead and replace it there’s several on eBay around 104 $135 could you give me any direction on where I could find one for standard transmission? Oh and thank you again I really do appreciate the time you took to explain things to me where I could understand it.

I know they are hard to find & no real guarantee they will work if you do find one. Normally the ones for automatics have been harder to find because of the problems with their incorporated TCM (trans control module). But all '05 & '06 are suspect.

I would beware of “lifetime warrantees” because if yours goes bad & they are unable to get you a replacement or are out of business you are out of luck. And yes, the more reputable ones will tell you they are unable be rebuild yours & (hopefully) return it to you. There are plenty of horror stories out there.

I can’t recommend anyone except to say that the only source I have seen with so far no negative feedback on these forums is Wrangler Fix. You should contact him. He personally answers his phone & will talk to you. At least see what he has to say & why he has apparently found a solution to avoid these failures then decide for yourself. Be sure to tell him your codes are intermittent in case that means something to him.

Can I ask you another Question? If I find one in a Salvage yard, have it shipped to me, can I just mount it, plug it in and go or does it have to be Programmed? Some are saying it needs to be Programmed to my V.I.N , which I don’t know what that means. Others say you have to have it Flashed, which again I don’t know what that means or if these things are even true. Can you shed some light on me about these Salvage yard Parts?

NO
That will not work

That was addressed in post 2

Programmed is same as flashing as you flash programming into flash memory

Do you think asking the same question several times will change the answer?

It is what it is
does not matter if you like how it is or not this is not a legal argument where an opinion/argument can change the outcome

WOOO!!! Easy Shotgun!!! I didn’t know you was loaded!!! If you’re going to be insulting, rude, obvious and down right ugly you can pack your bags and leave this Conversation now. As a matter of fact your input is no longer wanted or would be acknowledged. So head them up and move them out Mr. Rawhide. Out of this Conversation. I have received what I need as far as the smart Ellick lesson goes and don’t want to read another word from you for you obviously lack in person to person Edicts. People try to cover their Stupidity up with rudeness for which I have found to be to often true, such as in your Case. To you Sir I bid you farewell and Good luck in the Life you are living. My Lord! The nerve of some people. How they will go completely out of their way to be rude, but won’t take a step to be pleasant and Respectful. Please leave this Conversation.
Good Day.

Jees, you have obvious no clue how an old jeep works, asking the same questions over and over and you still can't comprehend. People are trying to help you and you have this response. "People try to cover their Stupidity up with rudeness ".
Correct sentence would be "People are trying to cover up their stupidity with rudeness" Get over it and have the dealer fix your Jeep, or better, get a Tesla, It's all electric, oh, wait, you have a problem with electronics, never mind.
