Was thinking about converting to waterless coolant what is the up side or down side?

Water cools the best, coolant just adds lubricants, corrosion inhibitors, and lowers the temperature at which it freezes. Anything like that added to water reduces its ability to cool.

I'd stick with a good coolant like Zerex G-05 mixed 50:50 with distilled water. It's highly effective and lasts a long time. Don't buy into some over-hyped product that claims to be water-free.

Properly maintained, there's nothing wrong with a water based coolant. The biggest advantage claimed by Evans is the block won't rust out from water. The block won't rust out with a normal properly maintained coolant either. Otherwise we wouldn't have all the old classic cars still being driven around. Heck they ran nothing but pure water until the 30's when antifreeze was developed.

My biggest issue is what do you do when your Jeep is on the trail or in a remote ares and the coolant gets dumped by a blown radiator hose, stuck thermostat, etc. You can't refill it with water once repairs are done and waterless coolant isn't available out in the boondocks like water is. I was 9,000' up on a mountain trsil when I lost much of my coolant years ago. Once the repair was done it just needed water to get going again.

Some very interesting information about Evans waterless coolant can be read at http://www.norosion.com/evanstest.htm

I personally wouldn't touch the stuff.

Thanks Jerry you answered my question.
The stuff is very expensive to boot.
I'll stick to the good old coolant.
