Anybody have experience with this rear overhead storage bin? I've been looking for a way to better utilize the otherwise wasted space at the top of the rear cargo area, up behind the roll bar, when I have the jeep packed pretty well for a week+ trip.

This thing looks pretty cool but don't see anything about it online other than the manufacturer's page.

There's also the dominion off-road hi lift mount that lets you stick a jack and other items like a shovel or axe up there, and I've thought about using their brackets to attach some sort of home made shelf up there.

I also just got a blue ridge attic net for the rear seat area and it seems pretty nice.

I don't have any experience with any of those you linked to, but, I do have the XG Cargo Gama mounted sportsbar storage bags in mine. They make use of that wasted/lost space behind the sportbar really well. I have had them for about two-ish years and am really happy with them. You can take them out of the Jeep without having to remove the mounting frame also. Just trying to give you another option to think about incase none of your other ideas work out.

I have a cargo tray in mine also and they fit behind it and I can still unzip them and get stuff in and out of them.

If I remember tomorrow I'll try and get a couple of pics of them in my Jeep and post them here.

One thing to consider when storing anything, especially up high is, what will happen to it in an accident? I would not even consider mounting a shovel or jack up high unless they were REALLY secure. I haven't been in an accident in 40 years, but stuff happens. Say it is one of those chain reaction accidents and you hit the guy in front of you at even 30mph. Will that shovel become a 30mph flying object until it hits something or someone? A Final Destination moment? How secure would the items in the tray be? Something to consider.

There is also the rattling issue. Metal items in a metal tray?

Thanks for the gamma bag suggestion, I'll take a closer look. Currently I do stuff some softer items (like a big zip lock full of TP heh) in the windows, but maybe some better organization would be good there. Not sure if they'd work along with the shelf that mounts to the back of the bars.

As for potential projectiles, I'm aware of that danger. The back seat net attic will only have light and or soft stuff in it that wouldn't be dangerous in a wreck, since it isn't really fully secure around the edges and stuff could come flying out.

As for that rear metal shelf, I'd of course have to see it in person to know how stout it is (or hear from someone who has seen it), but there nothing could very easily come straight forward since it'd be tucked up directly behind the upper rear roll bar, and the shelf is more of a 5 sided box that closes up fairly tight against the roof from what I can see. It's rated to hold 50 pounds so must be decently stout, mounts to the roll bars with fairly beefy looking u bolts. And I wouldn't plan on putting anything too heavy up there, maybe some folding camp chairs, tent, etc.

As for clanging, yeah I certainly wouldn't be tossing a loose trailer hitch up there like they show in their sample photo. I also generally either tie stuff down with bungie straps or wedge soft stuff like foam sleeping pads or towels around loose items to keep them from rattling and bouncing, especially off road, so I'm confident I could avoid rattling as long as the shelf itself doesn't rattle.

I'd have to move my fire extinguisher off the rear angled roll bar for either the gamma bag or that shelf, but that isn't a big deal.

Here’s my Gama bags behind my shelf. Not the greatest pics but you get the idea. I can still unzip them all the way and access the very bottom of the bags.
