Since I bought a 2018 JK I didn't have an option for a rearview camera. Any suggestions? A recommendation maybe?

Visibility is poor of course and at my age its difficult to spin my head right or left far enough for a decent view out the back. ;-)

Thanks in advance,

Roll

This is the unit I have been looking at (Brandmotion Adjustable Rearview Camera with Infrared Lights) as with the Recon package you cannot mount the standard charmers through the top center spokes of the spare. It just annoys me that as I have the stock head unit (for now) the cost is almost double. I'm trying to determine if that's due to the coding module or something else. I need to do more research.

Do you have the 430 radio? Take it back to your dealer to have him program the radio to see a camera before he forgets you.

Yes, this. You need the "XAC" option enabled for your vehicle by the dealer. After that, it's just $20 harness, wire, mount (homemade), and camera. No need to pay $500 for a name brand camera, either. My $20 one sees great even in the dark and is higher resolution than the 430N's display, so the picture is as perfect as it can get. Almost two years since I installed it, zero issues.

Which camera did you go with?

Go to Amazon, there are sooooo many cameras lol. The first one I bought with "nightvision" broke so I went with another brand that's been holding steady now for a bit. Still wouldn't recommend them yet though gotta give it a few months to see what's up!

I second what WaltA said. There are a lot of threads on backup cameras... I ended up reading them all as this was one of the first mods I wanted do, I am as mechanically inclined as a new born monkey and was worried about messing up a brand new jeep.

The options out there are range from expensive packages (like Brandmotion's like AGAV13 alluded to) to purchasing/fabricating parts yourself (as Overthinker mentioned).

I ended up purchasing parts separately including a space tire mount since fabricating my own was out of the question (see newborn monkey comment above) and it came out to be hundreds of dollars less than Brandmotion's and works fantastic.

Whatever route you choose, it's likely been done by someone on the forums who can answer any questions you may have.

Just for the record, I ended up buying a PAC harness, cheapie amazon camera, some extra wiring from Amazon, and a Radixom Spare tire mount. Hooked everything up to my Radio 430 (which did not need to get flashed since I used the PAC harness).

Did it about 2-3 weeks ago on my 2017 Sahara.

I have the Brandmotion adjustable camera tied into a stock head unit (430 N ) and it is outstanding. The dealer flashed my radio for $70 so no need to buy the unit with the OBCII programmer for $250

I agree with above there are tons of threads on this subject, just search for rear cameras. I would first call your dealer and find out what the cost is to flash your radio. Each dealer sets his own price, my dealer would have done it for free. Are you going to stick with your stock rims? Remember the camera has to be able to see through your wheel. I went with the Brandmotion, $250 camera, the mount rusted badly the first year. If I had to do it over I would paint the mount first for extra protection.

I looked into this a lot when I first got my JK but have been putting it off because I wanted to finish building it so I wouldn't have to redo it after buying bumpers, tire carrier, etc. It looks like AEV's kit is still the easiest and most complete. Just pricey for what it is.
