I've seen posts of people discussing the need for battery kill switches and gas cut offs. Most Jeeps are wide open with no alarm, chip in the key, etc.

I have a few Tuffy products to safely secure stuff in the Jeep, none of which is any good if the whole thing is driven off.

I know if a thief really wants it, they will get it no matter what. Seems to be a lot of concern though, are Jeeps that easy to jump in, hot wire and drive away?

i stole one in a about a min just opened the door and started it up lol jk jk. better off just to leave the doors unlocked and store nothing valuable inside. you might put gps tracking device sticker on the doors somewhere visible it might deter a stupid thief. that doesnt know how to disable a gps tracking device

Depends on where you live and park. If someone wants it consider it gone. And the year of the Jeep. The newer the harder it is to steal it. But a CJ2 is twist 2 wires together and push the starter button.

With a newer TJ the security is the chipped key. And taking the doors or top off removes the option of locking it up.

When my ignition switch broke it took about 5 minutes to jury rig it to start with a screwdriver. And I was careful to not damage anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you needed to have your key in the ignition for it to start though, right? When mine broke I started it with a screwdriver but I needed the key to sit in the ignition or it wouldn't read. I also learnt that on the newer chipped models, the fuel injectors won't work at all when the ignition is in the on position, it has to move to start first. Unless that person knows a lot about jeeps and their chips, it would be pretty hard to steal a newer one without the key.

I have a 2000 and there is no chip on my keys.

If you discount physically grabbing onto it and hauling it away with some type of wrecker or tow rig, it depends on the existence of the Sentry Key system.

Without it, takes a few seconds to pop the ignition cylinder out and actuate the starter switch with a screwdriver which also unlocks the steering wheel.

An accomplished amateur could have it gone in less than 2 minutes.

With the SKIM system from the factory in place, it is much harder and takes much longer. Even if you know the rig, you will need a non SKIM enable PCM. Before you swap that in, you have to access the SKIM module on the column and unplug it. After that, it takes about the same amount of time as the one without.

Unfortunately, me seeing someone in a parking lot with the hood up messing around over by the battery and then messing around under the dash would not raise many red flags.

I've seen far too much cobbled together wiring so I would just figure his 10 gigawatt sound system he was powering with the ignition accessory fuse that he got from Harbor Freight finally overloaded the wiring which let the magic smoke out and I wouldn't even give it a second glance.

Here in Houston some of the gangs have legitimate tow trucks and will just take your vehicle.
They strip it and then burn it.

Atleast they burn it because you don't want a stripped stolen car from an insurance standpoint.

Why can't people just be nice

THIS ^^^^^

Joy Ride or Professional Theft.

The Pros will win almost every time. To beat them you need a GPS system connected to your computer. And given todays technology that plus a rifle is yer best defense.
