Hey everyone,

near the end of last year i posted up to see if anyone else was having a similar issue to mine, that being an incredibly annoying creaky brake pedal. "Lubricating" never helped, in fact, made It worse.

I had my Jeep in to the dealer that actually wanted to take initiative and solve my issue.

They changed the Brake Booster assembly due to brake fluid leaking into the booster, and faulty master cylinder, which cause the pedal to creak. After having it replaced and a week long test of the new booster, i'm happy to know the issue I was having has been fixed !

Thought I'd share incase anyone was having issue resolving this problem !

Yeah I know what you mean about warranty,

luckily the gentleman I deal with at that service department has a very positive mindset ... After telling him about my past interactions with other dealer not wanting to take initiative and actually fix the problem .. he said what's the problem ... either way if I fix it under warranty or not, we're still getting paid .. Its good to hear that from a Service Dept rep .. rather than just being pushed off with a band aide solution.

A friend of mine who's a mechanic at GM mentioned something about fluid leaking in the brake booster and should be inspected or replaced asap . that was the case, hopefully now I won't have to worry about it, I had this problem since approx. 15,000 km .. I am now at 55,000 km .. so its been a while dealing with this issue.

My 2015 Rubicon had the dreaded brake pedal squeak also. I finally had a chance to take it into the dealership. I told them I had tried to lubricate the pedal, and it did not solve the problem. They ended up replacing the brake booster which solved the problem.

Glad to hear there are still honest service personnel out there. I have taken my Wrangler to the dealer and said there was nothing they could do to fix it. The brake squeak started about a month ago. Glad to hear by replacing the Brake Booster assembly the squeak is gone. Thanks for the tip JeepDrew 14. On another matter two dealers have been reluctant to fix/adjust my Hand Brake. Very frustrating. Does anyone out there know of a Jeep Mechanic in the Santa Clarita, CA area? I hope so.

Can any one w this issue describe the sound? Mine makes noise that I can hear as I pull into the garage and inch it into place under my hardtop. But I always assumed it was the pads on the rotor growning.

It's a sound like the brake pedal needs lubricating. A squeaky sound almost like if you were to rub your thumb over a balloon, or maybe the sound you get by squeezing a box of baking soda, this happens whenever the pedal is pressed. Sorry, maybe someone else can better describe the sound. I'm going to take my Wrangler in with the Brake Booster/Master Cylinder info from the Forum and hopefully they are capable of a fix. I'll let you know the outcome. :happyyes:

Oh crap, mine is creaking. I'll check for signs of a leak. Hope my lift and tires didn't void the drivetrain warranty.

After researching on the Wrangler Forum regarding Squeaky Brake Pedal, I took that information to the dealer, this was after two earlier visits, who said they couldn't recreate the problem. On the third visit I insisted on having the tech who installed my brake pads, get in the Jeep and listen to the problem, which he did. I pumped the brake a couple of times and he said, "Brake Booster" bad! Well they needed to order the part so had to again return to the dealer for installation the next day. As it turns our the Master Cylinder was leaking into Booster. Both units were replaced. All is fine, $938.66 out of pocket, and I had to be the one to tip them off to the problem, they discounted the bill a hundred dollars. Dealership communication problems are rampant in not just this dealership, but others too. I will report the Brake Booster problem to Jeep and get on a potential recall list, for this seems to be a problem with several Jeep models of this era. That's all for now thanks to the Forum. By the way my Jeep Wrangler Sport is a 2012 model, assembled in August 2011.

Here is the first reply from Chrysler Jeep.....

Thank you for contacting the Jeep Customer Assistance Center.

It is understandable that you would like to have the replacement of the
Brake Booster covered by a recall. There are currently no recalls
showing for this brake booster concern so the cost of the repair would
be out of pocket. The Basic Warranty that would provide cost assistance
to a concern such as this expired on August 20, 2014 so the only thing
that we can recommend would be to keep your receipts for this repair.
If a recall or extended warranty is initiated for this concern, you
would be able to submit for reimbursement at that time. By contacting
us about your concern, this adds to any tallies in regards to possible
recalls. Until a recall comes into existence, the repair is an out of
pocket expense.

I do see that in the previous email that you sent in, a response was
sent out that recommended that if this was a recall concern you would be
notified. I am not sure if you received that email or not but I just
wanted to make sure you had the information.

Thank you again for your email. Should you require additional
assistance, or have any new information to provide, please call 1-877-I-AM-JEEP (1-877-426-5337).

I received an additional email request for a copy of the Original Paid Invoice, which I promptly sent in. So if you have had any out of pocket expense, or not, relating to the Brake Booster/Master Cylinder issue you might contact the Company, they are prompt in responding to this type of thing.

Did you notice the brake fluid going lower due to the leak. It has to go somewhere. This would be a safety recall.

#18 ·
No! I really thought it was a lubrication problem at the pedal, so didn't notice the brake fluid level, and in addition when I had the brake pads replaced three weeks ago I had a complete lube job, no one said the level was low at that time. I'll let you know what I find out from Jeep. :happyyes:

What year is everyone's jeeps? My 2016 also is making this noise at 20k miles.

I just got this sound starting a few weeks ago on my 2012 JKR with 47K miles on it. It is the exact same sound and feel as I had with my Ford Escape years ago... I road that for 50K miles with the squeak but the brakes were real bad when I traded that in with 180K miles on it for this Jeep. I might have to drop the $1K to get this fixed at some point.

I am still a bit foggy on the actual sound and at what point in the pedal travel the squeak occurs. I hear something when I am easing my 2015 into it's final resting place for the night and if I am easing it up to the corner mail boxes after work.
But I am not sure I am hearing what has been described as the "problem."
I anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it greatly.

You would know it if you heard it, a grating sound from the pedal area like soft rubber or styrefoam rubbing against metal or overactive young lovers in grandma's bed just about every time the pedal is pushed in or released... Particularly at slower speeds.

Finally found some time to mess with mine. Like others have said the sound is coming from the brake booster when it comes out after the pedal is depressed. I spun the rubber boot on the booster around a few times and then pushed some of the existing grease in there towards the back of the boot where the booster goes in. Sound is gone. Fixed for now and cost me nothing. Guessing it will come back again at some point though.

I have that sound. It's just something that needs lube. I show no loss of brake fluid so no booster issue.

In my case, the brake pedal does not squeak with regular use. Just pumping the brakes does not make a noise. I only get a high pitched noise when I apply the brakes hard and hold the pedal down stationary hard, not pumping the brakes. It sounds like there is a leak in the booster diaphragm and the high pitched noise comes from air leaking through the diaphragm when a lot of vacuum is applied.

Interesting timing that this was revived. My 2016 with 58,000 miles has a bit of a squeak/creak when the pedal is actuating at low speed. Our old 1998 Tahoe did that for nearly all of the 20 years my parents owned it, and they sold it with 250k miles and no brake issues in that time, so I've ignored it. I'll keep an eye on fluid level.

I'm not sure a 3 year old vehicle should be asking me for a radiator, drag link, tie rod, master cylinder, booster at under 60k miles... but I guess that's the Jeep life?
