I have a 2015 sport JK and tow a 16' camper about 2000# loaded. I know I am maxed out and the unlimited is not that much bigger. I use a sway bar on the hitch and that made a lot of difference thinking of getting a weight distribution hitch too. Going to be trading in come fall and not sure if a unlimited would make that much difference. Does anybody have experience towing with a JK/U?

I have towed multiple times. I have towed my 3000 lbs travel trailer a few times and a landscaping traveler weighing around 1500 lbs loaded without an issue. As long as you are using a distributor hitch and a sway bar, you should be good. A pop up doesn't have the drag of a travel travel.

This is towing with a JK Unlimted.

I would use an electronic brake controller with anything over 1500 lbs if you can.
