Traction Control Warning Light and Engine Warning Light

2014 JK 2 Door Sports: I am looking for some advice. I am finding that when I hit a set of corrugations on a dirt track my traction control warning light comes on followed by the engine warning light. The traction control light resets if I turn the vehicle off and leave it for a short time before starting up again. The engine light resets after a day or so.Speed does not seem an issue and I have had it happen with both the traction control switched off and in the default on mode. When this occurs there seems to be no loss in power or change to the vehicles vital signs.

Any ideas thoughts or comments?

I was driving down the highway and the cruise control kicked out and the traction control light came on along with the check engine light . Got home and ran the code reader and had a C123F code. Steering angle sensor. Did some reading and just reset it. Made sure wheels where straight. With Jeep running turned all the way to lock left the all the way lock right and back to center. Drove down the road and light went out. Cruise is working and all back to normal.

I carry the BlueDriver by Lemur. Plug it in and read codes on my IPhone. I always noticed that my steering wheel was not centred.Make sure wheels are straight I put a piece of tape at the top dead center of the steering wheel. Then laying under Jeep loosened two bolts and started turning the turn buckle until the tape was top dead center. Since I did this the code has not come back.

The same thing happened in my 2 door from time to time. The light will come on if the Jeep senses the steering wheel is out of alignment. It goes way once the Jeep is turned off and the steering wheel is centered and the wheels are straight. At the time I chalked it up to my steering wheel being slightly off center when I lifted the vehicle. Later after some investigation it ended up being that I had some play in the steering.
First, I would get the codes read. You can get code readers from vendors on the site or on Amazon. Second, I would check your steering. Is there extra play in the steering? Your drag link and/or tie rod ends may need to be replaced.

FYI, there are 3 types. OBDII, OBDII + ABS, OBDII +ABS +SRS.

The majority of cheap readers will only do the OBD II. Since you haven't said that the ABS light is on, you should be fine with them.

This is one that will do the ABS. It is about $40usd cheaper than a dedicated reader.

I was having a similar issue except it was a cam shaft position sensor. Replaced sensor and a few days later, light came back on, same code. Talked to a friend that is a car mechanic and fellow Jeeper, he said for all sensors always use Mopar parts. Doesn’t know why but they are just better than aftermarket. Replaced with OEM sensor, no issues for last few months.

Just an update on this problem, I purchased a BlueDriver and it reads the code as p0344 faulty cam shaft reader.I have found a mechanic in Five Dock who specialises in Jeep and Landrover. ATV Automotive for any Sydney based Jeepers. They reckon its the wiring from the sensor, its stretched and when I hit a series of corrugations it trips the CEL. They reckon it can be fixed by replacing the wiring with a "Patch Harness". The whole exercise is costing AUD700. Anyway she's booked for Monday. I will keep you updated.
