Kinda cool idea, but I'm not digging those huge ratchet brackets klunking around in your wheel wells. There has to be a better way to secure the claws.

Had a set years ago not truck claws, they work only for a short time before the straps wore out and fly off wheel doing damage to side of truck or vehicle they were on. and driveline breakage i would rather put on a set of full set of tire chains, less bounce and easier on the drive lines. Not a sudden stop when the tire claw comes around and hit something solid. will find weak links in drive train.

yeah i hear you. But note that these are not for regular driving around, just for getting unstuck in a given situation. You put them on, get unstuck, and take them off. So maybe the tire is only going a couple of rotations. And importantly, the bracket goes on the outside. Anyway, just wondering if anyone had tried them...

Cheap insurance for someone who (let's say) travels to a mountain cabin or maybe is a first responder and has to get to work etc.

Would suck if the night before the apocalypse, it snowed like 3 feet and you passed on a set of them the prior week

That's what I was thinking. I'm sure they'd work in deep snow or anything loose and sticky, but imagine trying to loosen those ratchets up after they've been in mud or snow?
I feel they'd also tear up the rims.
Regular snow chains or the plastic style would be more usable all around, not to mention cheaper and less likely to eat a tire.

That is expensive insurance. I think I would just use a winch or call a buddy with a Jeep and buy him a beer after he towed me out.

I carry these in winter i.e. November-May in Colorado. They work exceptionally well on road. No bouncing like heavy ladder chains. And they hold up very well off road even if you come across rocks. Very easy to fix if they do break... And less than $100 if you're savvy when looking for deals.
They are a 5.5mm square link that is secured to a cable. Easy on/off

Sinister6, Whats the brand of those chains. Thanks
They are Alpine SUPER sports, which are 5.5 mm. Alpine Sports are 3.5mm. I have a sets of the Super Sports for my 7.3L and the trailer I haul my Jeep on. If I'm in the mountains (Rockies), going through a pass and get hit with a snow storm,I want to be able to safely get to the closest Hotel! All of the sets I "stole" off CL or EBay!
