I've been out of the game for several years. If I purchase a 2017 Jeep JK with 16K miles on it, it doesn't have any factory warranty left, correct?

Dealer is saying it has a lifetime warranty on it. is that just for that dealer? and repairs would have to be done there? I seem to remember some type of lifetime warranty on my 2015, but never used it.

I looked at this Mopar.com site and found out what Mopar considers/considered the warranty on my 2013. The coverage varies depending on the parts. Basic warranty is 3yr/36,000mi. Panels are have an anti-perforation limited warranty. Specifically 3yr/unlimited miles for all panels. Outer panels for 5yr/100,000mi. Power train 5yr/100,000mi. Federal emissions for 2yr/24000mi; however for specified components 8yr/80,000 mi. Ask the dealer to show you the paperwork, there may have been a 3rd party extended warranty purchased that is/was transferable to new owners. That said I doubt it has a lifetime warranty, but if he has the paperwork to prove it than great.[/QUOTE]

A 2017 will not have the factory bumper to bumper warranty on it. It will have the Federal emissions warranty on it. 2017 was the last year of the Mopar Lifetime Maxcare plan. I know, I have it on Momma's WK2 and as I live in NC, it's transferrable one time.

If it was purchased with the Lifetime Maxcare warranty AND you live in either NC or FL, you can take over the warranty for a $50 transfer fee. If you and the Jeep don't meet those qualifications, it doesn't have a lifetime warranty. Maybe the dealer is bundling in a 3rd party warranty, but I'm sure it's buried in the price and probably not worth the paper it's written on. Ask the dealer to see the warranty contract.

You are correct, sir. The only 2 states where the Lifetime Mopar Maxcare warranty is transferrable are FL and NC. In NC, you are free to negotiate the initial cost of the warranty while in FL, you have to pay the full retail of the warranty. Both states have a one time transfer fee of $50 however in NC, the warranty had to be purchased initially from a NC dealer.

talked to the dealer again and it's a lifetime powertrain warranty offered by the dealer. with a $200 deductible. considering I'm in Texas and the dealer is in WI, that doesn't do me any good at all. sounds like I need to go up there and do a pretty thorough inspection. appreciate all the help here!

It should be mint with only 16kmi. My 17s been rock solid since day one(48kmi on it now).. Some 3rd party is underwriting the coverage. Ask for a discount since you're paying for a warranty you can't use.

Not sure if you've purchased yet but there is a lot peace of mind when it comes to buying new. Even if it does take an $11k price hike. I've bought used many times (under 30k miles) and almost every time, there is at least one thing that is super annoying that I find too late in ownership and can't get fixed.
Looking forward, I'll likely only buy new or barely used with less than 10k miles on it, like a CPO. Hopefully, this helps?

My 2 cents
The JKs by the end of their run were very out dated. For example, the radio is the same from like 10 years prior to when the 17s were made. So today - that's 15 year old stuff. It's fine, but a dinosaur in technology. My 13 and 17 have the exact same radios.

You can make the point that the early JK bugs were well flushed out by 2017 - but at the same time, they didn't stop making the bugs. Heater, oil cooler, head gasket, etc.

If I could swing the cost for a JL and was looking at it vs a JK, the choice for me would be the JL all day long. Never drove a JL yet either - just about 350k miles in both my JKs.

those are some great points. the more I think about it, the more the JL might make sense. the warranty would be nice also. the price difference really doesn't justify getting a JK. Maybe I'd be lucky enough to find a manual JL on a lot somewhere to test drive to see how I like the transmission. Going to start doing some research.
