So I have a dropped transfer case and I am looking to make som skids and angle them up so it doesn't plow snow this winter. What guage steel should I use and do you think aluminium would work? I do some off roading and want them to be durable. I could buy some but money is always tight and I have a metal brake and welder so I want to take on the project myself. Any suggestions would be nice.

I would raise my fatory skid back up to where it belongs before I put that much work into homemade skids.

Go get some 3/16" plate the length of the flat portion of the skid and weld it on at your desired angle.......
Then once you get tired of that not helping very much, go flat.

3/16" steel will work if it's properly supported. Aluminum will work if it's the proper grade, thickness and is properly supported.......
