Hi I'm new to the whole forum thing. Hope you guys can help. I hate electrical issues. I have a 2011 Wrangler 2Dr sport and my step/reset buttons, radio control and horn all stopped working. I checked the fuses and smacked it but nothin. Also the lights behind the step/reset and cruise control went out, but the cruise control still works.:pullinghair:

Any ideas on how to fix without going to the dealer. Thanks

While I have not done it on a JK, I have replaced clock springs in other vehicles. Not too difficult of a job and take no more than an afternoon. You can usually get a steering wheel puller for loan/rent from Auto Zone if you do not want to buy one.

Before you replace the clock spring, disconnect your battery for a while (15 mins) then reconnect and see if it makes a difference.

If you do have to remove your steering wheel also disconnect the battery and let it sit for a while to let the airbag capacitors discharge, chances of it deploying are slim but better safe than sorry.

I disconnected the battery but that didn't work. Now my fog lights don't work and airbag light comes on for a little bit then goes off for a few seconds, then comes back on again. Any other ideas before I change out the clock spring? Thanks

My steering wheel radio/cd controls worked on the way to get my oil changed, now they don't after I picked it up. So annoying. My cruise light on the instrument panel works as do my fog lights so seems to be solely limited to the cd player/radio controls. Its also probably a coincidence that it was fine before garage did oil change and now its not but... not sure what they could have hit/touched to have it stop working. My first reaction is to go back to the garage and have them look at it since it was fine when I brought it there. If I don't do that I can check the fuses but if it were a fuse wouldn't other things not work ie cruise control indicator?

I thought I would share my recent experiences on a similar issue just in case it helps someone else.

2012 Rubicon

Symptoms: Horn not working, all buttons on and behind the steering wheel not working except cruise control buttons. Blinkers and wipers are all fine. No trouble codes recorded or airbag lights are triggered.

Fix: Change the cruise control button switche 56046094AF. Its a $40 part and cost me $350 at the dealership in labor to diagnose and repair.

They told me that the cruise control switch is a pass through to the remaining buttons on the wheel and even though the cruise itself worked the output pin wasn't providing power or comms to the remaining circuit.

I do not know if there was any additional software update required but its worth a try before taking to the dealer. I changed the clockspring also before taking to the dealership but that did not correct the problem.

i have the same symptoms on 2013 jk as tboyflyer, however, changing out the steering wheel control did not fix it, looks like i go after the clockspring
Ditto.. Just installed a new cruise switch a few hours ago and it didn't change anything. A $40 cruise switch and 30 minutes of my time seemed like the lesser of 2 evils...

Guess I'll just order a clock spring and get it over with...

Check your local dealership for warranty status clocksprings in many cases are covered by an extended warranty due to being known for being faulty.

Ya they replaced mine way out of warranty on my 2011, their is a recall. Funny part is the dealership I bought it from the maintaince guys took some convincing that i even purchased it new there. My mods make finding the vin kinda tough...So l i walked to the final finance guy who sells you extended warantees when you buy a new car. He sure remembered me. I said sure i will buy it right now, please put it in writing that you wanna cover me to 100,000 miles , im gonna take this home , get out the plasma dn welder, cut it up , put on some coil overs, regear, cut all the factory mounts off and build it to run in the mud. I asked him how much to warrantee that.... turns out he didnt want any part of warranty extension sale for a guy who can turn a wrench. Be loud about the clockspring , they have a recall and will fix it for free. Its the one and only time i let a stealership touch my JK. Looks like a pain to change it out, I hate working on electronics. I have 100 percent confidence that your problem is the clockspring.

No chance of warranty in my case.. Dirty title. But that doesn't exclude me if there is a safety recall.

Another symptom that mine has is the seat belt chime stopped alerting me if not buckled. The seat belt light will be on but no chime once I hit 15 mph. Cruise works but no radio controls, voice command, evic menu does not

yep its a recall.
the seat belt chime is easy. Its your buckle latch, its a seperate issue than the clockspring. My 2011 is on my 3rd or 4th seat buckel, they are like 60-70 bucks the stealership, they might make aftermarket ones i never checked, its only one bolt and a electrical quick connect very easy to change out. Somebody should make a stong aftermarket seat belt latch mod.

sorry i read it wrong , my seat belt comments would help get rid of the stupid chime which a busted buckle will cause. maybe your issue is tied to the clock spring, its such a mystery part lol.

with your dirty title issue would just call local stealership service and ask them if they can fix a clockspring repair on FCA's dime. Mine made me pay for an hour to "diagnosis" it then refunded me for the hour once they fixed it. it took them about an hour and a half, you basically gotta remove all the dash plastic around the steering column to get to it.
