I am replacing my stock unit and I wonder if it is necessary or beneficial to use a marine unit.
JVC makes one with all the same features but as a marine unit for an extra $10 or so.

Anything else I should watch for since this will be my first radio install in a vehicle?

I installed a marine in the tj.i don't worry about the rain or water as much anymore,good radio with great features,advise using a wire harness that matches your original harness,this way you won't have issues with radio and it's functions,not a hard job to do,basic hand tools and a little of your time and you'll be jamming in no time.

If it's an extra 10 then go for it. I've got a cheap O'Reilly's brand head unit and it does fine. Few weeks ago it rained incredibly hard, my jeep was bikini topped. Just needed to dry and it started right up.

Install:
Don’t hack up your dash, get rid of the supplied sleeve and use the bracket the Jeep came with.

In the last couple of years I've replace 3 stereo units in mine and the wife's cars. I went through Crutchfield for two of the 3, and sorry I didn't use them for the other. You might take a look around their website and see what you can find.

If you order a deck from Quadratec they can bundle a bracket and wire harness for you. I installed their cheapest bluetooth Sony deck and it literally took 15 minutes.

Naw. Unless you're doing some serious hi-wattage stuff the factory wiring is fine.

Have a look at these photos of a previous install I completed using the factory radio bracket, it's a far superior mounting method than anything from Scosche or Quadratec

You will want to remove the sleeve that comes attached to your new radio and utilize the bracket on your factory radio.
