I've had my Jeep for less than a year and I've lived at three apartment complexes (mine, my ex's, and now my new one). When I know it's going to be nice for several days in a row I'll leave the top down so I can have a nice morning ride to work.

I'm a little more weary of my new apartment complex however. So I feel like I constantly am checking on it at night. But at the end of the day even if the top is on, it doesn't take a scientist to figure out how to break in.

And there's another Jeep a building or two down but that guy/girl never takes their top off :(.....Granted I live in a fairly low crime city but still...

With that long preamble I would like to get a general consensus of my fellow Jeepers.....

Well, I live in a nice subdivision and yes, I leave my top down at night. I do use a Trail cover to help keep the cats, dew, varmints out overnight. I don't leave anything in it, ever, so there's nothing to steal, but that doesn't stop someone from just being ornery...

same here. I live in a decent neighborhood, so Ill leave the top&doors off as much as possible if the future looks groovey. the only thing valuable I leave in there are quarters. dealing with the morning dew and insects.. it's a jeep thing.

I have a garage, but the Jeep is worth 1/4 of the other two cars, so it stays outside.

If My top has been off and no rain is supposed to come I'll leave the top off, if I have had the windows/doors off that day, and weather is good it stays that way.

I voted top up, no windows. since it sat like that all last week.

I keep nothing in the jeep, so I'm not looking for any "security". as a soft top doesn't lend to being secure.

The Sheriff lives across the street from me. its a fairly quiet neighborhood. and I'm a gun toting redneck, so If someone wants to play I'm always ready.

im just a paranoid person,i went out there one sat morning and i swear every neiborhood kid was on it!
its not a jungle jim on wheels!

If I lived in town, I would definitely close it up at night.

Living out in the boondocks like we do, I still like to close it up at night for a couple of reasons.
First, it keeps the critters out, Cats can really make a mess in your rig. They will spray the interior to mark their territory and the smell is nearly impossible to get out. Where we live we have ***** and possums too.

Next, it keeps the dew from settling on the interior of your vehicle. Moisture combined with the dust and grime can make it difficult to keep clean. It makes it stick really well to fabrics and some electronics don't like moisture.

I try to put my top up at night just to be on the safe side. I don't always buckle it all down, just flop it up and Velcro the side windows on.

Top off all the time, Don't leave anything valuable in there and you have nothing to worry about. My top and doors are off just about all summer. I just bought a trail cover for when it rains, I put my top in storage and leave it off all summer.

I'm a slow learner as well....back in the day I was at a buddies house in my old convertible. a cat came by and marked my seat as his....

That smell never really came out all the way (on humid days I'd get a reminder)

I keep the top and doors off a lot, so I park it in the garage at night, mainly for the unexpected down pours over night!

Out here so far I've left my top off cept for the bikini. Critters I don't have to worry about our dog keeps them away as for security i have a tuffy lock box with my stereo in it so again im not worried. Dumb criminal trying to unbolt the box + Dogs Barking = 10 guage to the face. :D

I leave mine off at night, when possible, and never lock it. Just remember, it's a Jeep and if they really want in they'll get in. That's why, like so many, I don't leave anything valuable in there as stated above. :punk:

I've had the top and doors off for about 2 weeks straight now. You can tell by the 4"s of pollen on the dash. Honestly as stated above, I keep nothing but a bunch of CD's (not even originals) in it and I would rather a thief be able to just look and see that there was nothing worth stealing then have them slash my top to find out.

Im sneezing my head off today to...but having the top and doors off are so worth it.

I keep my top and doors off during the summer (so far I have), but I've had my car vandalized (pissed in by another college kid, a bagel thrown in it, etc.). While it sucks, it hasn't deterred me enough to worry. There's really nothing valuable in it, except my amplifier and subwoofer (maybe totaling $100 if that) and my head unit is useless without the faceplate (which I take in with me). Just lock up the stuff inside, and then there's little risk to worry about (have a kill switch too).

On the note of critters, I was leaving for school one morning in my Cougar and I heard a rustling in the back (hatchback), look back and there's a cat sitting there. I freaked, almost crashed the car, and pulled over to let the cat out. It ended up spraying my trunk, dropping a deuce, and clawing my back seat. That car reeked (even after numerous steam cleanings) until the day I sold it. That is a mess.
