I have a jeep TJ right now looking to upgrade. Was thinking about a 4 door but I have found some really good deals on 2 doors. My main complaint is space, how loud it was, and how harsh it drove on the highway. Does the JK 2 door have any more noticable space over the TJ?

JK definitely bigger. Plus no lifting your leg up and over the tub to get into the jeep. But still you don't gain a bunch of room (like you would with a JKU).

Still have my TJ, and I can def tell a difference when I switch between the two.

I've never had a TJ so I can't compare there - but I have had (2) 2 door JKs and a 4 door JK. The 4 door JK is awesome on space compared to the 2 door, especially if you have people in your car other than yourself quite often. The 2 door is the way to go if you don't, just pull the rear seats and it has nearly identical room to the trunk of a 4 door.

The downside to the 4 door (imo ofcourse) is the fact that when you want to go topless or doorless, it's more work, etc. When you just take the top down with no doors off, it doesn't feel very "open" in the front seats.

My recommendation is to measure the space behind the rear seat of the JK as well as the space with the seat tumbled forward. The space is wider as the entire body tub is also wider.

As you can see on my siggy that I have both a TJ and a JKU. The TJ is far more maneuverable than the JKU, but there are times when it just isn't enough. Plus, I could never get my two Dobes in the TJ, so haven't tried.

I had a TJ and several 2 door JK's...really no space gain. Although they have more power, the ride is about the same (little sketchy above 75mph) on the highway.

The 4 door is well worth the extra $$ IF you drive a lot of highway AND want more space.

So the JK 2door isn't much better on the highway than a TJ? Is it quieter at least? My TJ just swerves a lot and I want a lot smoother less strenuous on the driver.

I recently traded my 2015 JK for a 2016 JKU because of the unstable highway ride and lack of space. My mistake for not test driving the 2 door on the Freeway at higher speeds. The 2 door is likely a lot better than your TJ however and you might be okay with one on the Highway. I can only have 1 vehicle and the 2 door was lacking in space. The 4 door is so much better on the highway but it should be with 20 inches more wheelbase.

I don't have any comparison space wise, because I am "that guy" who fills his entire trunk with a subwoofer! Lol

But I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised with how refined the ride is in the my 2016 JK. All I did was swap out the springs for Mopar 17/60s and add Fox shocks, and it handles very well on road. I had it just under 90 mph on the freeway and it was fine...
The springs added approx 2" of lift, but more importantly a much firmer, more stable ride. Of course, the shocks contribute to the smoothness and handling a lot.

JK works ok for most needs if you pull the back seat. Easily enough room for two people and gear for vacations, camping, etc. But bulky things from Home Depot or similar might not work so well.

I have to disagree about highway performance- the JK obviously is no corner carver but I'll run 75-80 without concern. Definitely quieter than a TJ, conversation at speed (with a hard top anyhow) is fine, radio doesn't need to be cranked, etc. Only real detriment to me is the tank is smallish so highway range sucks.

Well, it was several years between my TJ (2001) and my first JK (2008) but as Mike-D said, the JK 2 door isn't horrible. I don't think the noise is much different than a JKU but it does have that 'sudden' steering and mine was horrible on bad roads. Tires may hae had a lot to do with it, but I put the same Duratracs on my current JKU as I had on the JK and the JKU is much smoother. Absorbs bumps and bad roads better and is easier to drive.

If you have time, go drive both on a bad interstate.

I had a 97 brand-new TJ. I also bought a brand-new 2012 JK Unlimited Rubicon. I now have a 2015 JK Wrangler two door Willys edition. The two-door Willys drives and rides as good as my four-door Rubicon did and both are Extremely more quiet than the TJ was. Also on my two-door the backseat is easily removable unlike the TJ. I much prefer a two door myself but either one is a tremendous improvement over the TJ.
