They will work with most 255 width and narrower tires. I contacted Tire Rack about the 16" version of this wheel, and they said it even has the same hub bore as the JK (71.5mm), which makes them hub centric.

 

Great to hear. I had already ordered them so that gives me some peace of mind. It's too bad they're not a little wider to support a potential wider tire. But right now i am going for the J8 look. I've seen people looking for basic wheels like these but no one has ever mentioned these specific ones. Thanks for your reply.

I was just coming on here to do that. I like the way they look overall. I'd like to find some sort of center cap to keep to muck out, but i don't know if thats necessary or if they even make one.

These are actually just the stock 255/75r17s. I havent decided which tires to go with yet so i just put the stocks on.

Have you noticed any difference in handling with the 6.5" rim width? Did you keep the same factory PSI? Can't remember if the Sport S wheels are 7.0 or 7.5"?

I'm considering putting 255/80's on these wheels, but a little worried a slightly higher profile Load Range D or E heavier 33" tire will change the handling characteristics on the road.

 

Nope, it feels pretty much identical. The Sport S stock width is 7.5". Sometimes i feel like i can feel that theyre slightly heavier ( i think theyre 4 pounds heavier each) but that's most likely in my head, switching to any AT or MT tire will be a bigger weight difference than these wheels. Ive been really concerned qith keeping the handling and stock characteristics the same and ive been overall really happy with the way these feel.

My one gripe is that the wheels might be a little cheap. Im not used to steel wheels, so im not sure how easily the paint should chip. I had 2 wheels come in chipped or scuffed up. One was where i wouldnt see it so i mounted it and the second, im in the middle of an exchange on, the one they sent me to replace it is also slightly chipped. Im working with them now on that one too. Also it seemed like some of the paint chipped just from the tire shop put the weight on it.

Disappointing to hear about the paint issue. Once that starts, then the rust will soon follow. Less noticable on black painted wheels, but unfortunate nonetheless.

 

Right, I'm hoping its just a cheap paint job. If they start to rust (hopefully i can get through a season or 2) then I'm hoping I can refinish them myself and do a better job. I wish they made an alloy in this style. I just don't like the deep dish look of the soft 8 style.

Let me know if you end up getting them or even if you just decide to put the 255/80s on a different wheel. That's what I'd like to do, but with these wheels its basically that or stock size for me.

Just a follow up to the scratches. TireRack is refunding me the full amount of one wheel. They would've done another exchange if i wanted, but I didn't want to deal with the hassle so we agreed on a refund. They were really easy to work with on it too, and I didn't have to argue my point.

With that said, they scratched up the wheel even more where the balancing weight goes when i took it in to get it mounted. I'm hoping to be able to touch it up. The guy at the shop said it was pretty normal for paint on a steel wheel to scratch like that. Not sure if that's true or not, I've always owned alloy wheels.

Are you still running these wheels? Did you ever end up putting different tires on them?

 

I still have the wheels on, but I haven't changed tires yet. I haven't had any issues.

I finally ran my old tires down and put on Goodyear Duratracs in stock size (255/75r17). They work well. I have no issues with these wheels. Also, the tires have been great so far, but I've only been on road and in snow and ice.

if you hit the center with black plastidip they will look much better. I did that when I was running rims without center caps.

 

Yeah, I was actually thinking about painting them, but was concerned it would look cheap (i guess it cant look worse than rust). My bigger concern was painting or plasti dipping the axle nut. Can that create an issue at all?
