1990 YJ 4.2L - Original Air Cleaner bracket and spacer

Hello,

I have the original carb and the air cleaner sitting on top of the valve cover.

I am wondering how the bracket and spacers work and how much. I have the metal bracket and a circular plastic disc but that is all. PO stacked a bunch of bolts on top of the plastic disc and than put the air cleaner on. Something seems off.

Can anyone take a picture or show me what you have done?

Thanks

It's the same...that is exactly what mine looked like until I tore it all off...gave to a buddy of mine who put on one of his kids Jeeps...an 86 with a 4.2...

mine are all 4.0's.... I just googled that for you.... I did come across instructions to raise the bracket for a webber carb ..... you don't have a webber carb do you?

I may still have the original setup for my carter in a box with all the emissions crap I pulled off when I did my motorcraft carb. its yours for the shipping if you want. I'll check a little later this morning.

Just switch the plastic disc with the nuts. If the use of nuts offends you, you can replace the nuts with a plastic spacer from the hardware section of Big Box lumber yard.

Got it at last makes a kind offer, but you can have the plastic spacer today for a buck or two.

KISS principal applies.

I have the original air cleaner and have the same issue your PO had when he added the three nuts to the air cleaner center bolt. When I go into town today, I'll stop by my local Big Box and pick up a plastic spacer and try to level out my air cleaner.

Good Luck, L.M.

I think # 17 is the plastic disc. #14 is a gasket.
I have a '88 - '90 parts catalog and the illustration is the same.

Part number for #17 is J324 1389 in case you need one. In the pic you posted, the disc looks like mine.

Larock,

I went out to my 88 this morning to take a photo of my setup in the hopes of helping you with what the disk and washer should look like. After looking, it appears the rubber washer is just a spongy material/seal then followed by the disk. I tried to pop it off for another photo but it was really stuck on and I was afraid it would crumble if I pried it off. I think you could easily make your own gasket from a piece of rubber against the air cleaner then followed by the disk that you already have. Curious why you need those nuts to raise up the air cleaner. You don't by chance have a spacer under the carb that might raise it up higher than OEM do you? Just thinking here. Anyway, my rig is 100% stock with no mods and this is what I have. Hope this helps.
