Question about the fwp/invoice pricing. My dealer is telling me that this number is what the dealership pays so they can't go under that without losing money. Considering how many people in this thread are getting under invoice price, I doubt this is true and all these dealerships are losing money on these deals. Can someone fill me in?

I can't speak with authority, but I believe the "invoice" price is just another sales tool to make people feel like they're getting a good deal. Maybe they get a kickback from the manufacturer. I joined Tread Lightly(if you read back through the threads you can find more information) which then allows you to buy through theChrysler/Jeep friends and affiliates program. This guarantees 1% under invoice and only $75 dealer fee. I was still able to negotiate 4.5% under invoice by going back and forth between two dealers.
Membership costs $100 and is tax deductible. It says 30 days, but it only took about two weeks to get the membership package. You get an affiliate number in the package that you have to use at the Jeep/Chrysler F&A web site that then issues a control number that you use at the time of purchase. This may not be the answer you were looking for but I hope it helps you.

JKURX - Granite; Manual; Max Tow; 430N Radio, Elec AC Contol.
Agreed to price at time of order (not including tax, title, tags) = $37,400
Affiliate pricing program, with or without trading my '11 FJ.
Ordered last week of Oct. Est delivery date from Jeep is 01/02/14.
Put $1,000 down at time of order.
Got to decide if I want to keep the FJ or trade it. If I keep the FJ I'll put $20k down on the Jeep and finance the rest, plus pay off the FJ. If I trade the FJ, I'll pay the difference and the JK will be all mine.
Also waiting on the $500 golden ticket with my brochure request from Jeep:rolleyes:

At the end of the day, most of the profit that the dealers make is from Holdback, which is a payback from Chrysler after sales targets are reached. Kind of like a rebate. They will vary from dealer to dealer. For example, the holdback in this example (under HB) is $1344. Every dealer is going to operate a bit different, but your salesperson is going to get commission on profit, which can include the holdback as well as anything over some threshold (could be invoice price). They could also get bonuses based on volume, etc...

Tread lightly is the easiest way to get a good price on a new Jeep, but like you indicate you can do better with some negotiation skills and being armed with data... as well as having dealers compete for your business, and working with a large volume dealer.

In the attached example The FFP pricing is what the Tread Lightly price would be with only $75 dealer fees (which vary from state to state, dealer to dealer). This particular dealer was going to give me around 3% under Invoice. I ultimately did better (around 4-5% under) and the dealer was 5 mins from my house vs driving across the megalopolis to be subjected to signing papers and "waiting for manager approval" BS.

Finance Notes (Cash / Financed / Gift lol...) - Ill put 10k down, loan will be about 3% so like 400 a month. I was trying to get around 4% below invoice but dealers on long island are really stubborn about going below invoice so I figure 3 is just fine because I dont have to settle for a color I dont want ie. black or white. Nothing against those colors, just not for me.

Final Notes - Ive waned a jeep since I was 16, now that I can actually afford one, dream come true! This will be my first jeep purchase, also first vehicle purchase ever. It feels so wrong saying car lol
