4.88 or 5.13

Ok so once I get the new axle in. I will regear :thumb:, but I'm trying to decide on gears ratio. I have 37's now which I love and long term like 2 years from now, may, may, go to 38's :hide:. So what does everybody think? The things I'm worried about with 5.13 and closed diff are the small teeth and top highway speed. This is still my daily driver. Thanks everyone.

With an auto it seems most people go lower, so either 5.13 or 5.38, but since you have the 3.6 motor I don't know.

I'm actually debating the same thing, but since I have a 6 speed and the 3.6, 4.88's would be more tolerable for me than you. I have a 20 mile round trip highway commute mon-fri so lower highway rpm's are better for me so I'm leaning towards 4.88's

5.13's with 35's is an overkill. To put it in perspective, I geared my crawler on 40's and one ton axles to 5.13 to get a good blend between road and hardcore trail use.

Max gear ratio for 35's should be 4.88 (4.56 is comfortable for both highway and trail). On stock axles, to include the dana 44, high ratios can overstress the ring/pinion/and diff housing.

I've got a 2012 auto JKUR running 35's with the stock 4.10's and of course the 3.6L Jesus Engine. I'm constantly using the "auto-stick" to upshift when driving on pavement anywhere above 45MPH. It'll just sit at the upper end of the RPM range (not quite in the redline zone) unless I manually hit the auto-stick to upshift. I had everything professionally calibrated using a ProCal so I think all the shift-points should be optimized for my current set-up. That being said it looks like I'm just going to need to regear however like a lot of people here I'm struggling to figure out which gearing would be the best for my set-up (4.88, 5.13, 5.38).

Any recommendations on the best gearing for my set-up? Also, excuse my ignorance on this topic but can someone here explain how I should expect the performance of my Jeep to change when I regrear. I'm perfectly happy with the trail performance of my Jeep at this point (no complaints at all), my only complaint is pavement performance. So when I regrear how will that effect:

1. Performance when accelerating from a full stop, should I expect it to be more "jerky" or will that not be an issue?
2. Shifting from gear to gear, should I expect it to be more "jerky" or will it shift just as smoothly as the stock 4.10's.
3. Higher speeds (45MPH+) should I expect the regearing to resolve the issue with needing to manually upshift in order to keep the tach out of higher RPM range?
4. Finally, from an overall perspective what should I expect to see change from regearing. What are the overall pros/cons of rehearing?

Sorry for the novel here but I'd really like to get some useful information from those of you who have a much better understanding of gearing than I do. Thanks! :thumb:

I've been kicking with 4.88 for about 2 months now, Love em, but I have a 6 speed.
