6 1/2" speaker won't fit!

I am having issues trying to upgrade my speakers in my 2014 JKU. I am replacing the rear sound bar speakers with 6 1/2" Kenwood 3-way coaxial speakers.

The 6 1/2" I bought are quite noticeably smaller than the stock ones and can't be mounted because the speaker hole is too big. There's not enough to screw into. How can two speakers be advertised as the same size but not fit the same hole?

I'm so confused. And frustrated.

You need to look at the specification for the speakers. Those speakers are really high in the bass range(80Hz), so you won't get much bass from them. 80Hz is really high with only an RMS value of 70 watts. There are other speakers that go as low as 30Hz(Polk 6.5), with 60 watts RMS. Much better low frequency for a 50 watt Head unit. The Polks will sound twice as good. There are 70hz speakers that have 150watts RMS. Those speakers are much better in power handling, if you want to amp them. Best buy? No, they are more like best cheap crap. What's the point of calling it a three-way when the bass can't even reach reasonable bass frequencies.

So I ended up figuring out a way to install them without using adapter rings. The speakers came with these little clips that SORT OF help keep it in place. it catches the edge by just enough all around to keep the speakers in. I can post pictures if anybody needs.

My homemade solution was to use the speaks the Jeep came with - gut the middle out of it leaving the lipped ring, and then dropping the new speaker into the ring and using JB Weld to hold it there. Wait a bit to let it dry and install. I thought I had photos somewhere, can't find them right now.It helps to have a dremel to trim the plastic legs that hold the stock speaker in place on the back.

+1. I did this last week when I installed some Polks in the soundbar. Worked like a charm. Couldn't believe how BAD the stock speakers we're made!
