What the hell! That totally sucks. I can't believe they designed that bottom hinge like that! I'd contact the company and send pics and have they pay to repaint it

 

Yikes!

 

Looks like it not only took the paint off the hinge but also cracked the paint on the corner of the door near the bottom hinge and bent it. Touch it up ASAP before it rusts. I would find another door storage system.

 

Figures that I just ordered a 4 pack of these back on 05/21. Still waiting for them to come in.

I have a 2-Door 2011, but I wanted to hang my soft doors also.

Yeah, I spoke to Adam via email. He is going to look into redesigning the bracket. I told him, that's great for future sales but it does me no good since I already modified and fixed my set and my doors brackets are still gouged. Just be careful when you get your set.

How about cutting off a piece of pvc pipe and using it as a spacer?

 

These will now come with nylon spacers to allow for "pivoting" of the door. The original design behind this was to simply set the door in place on the hanger not to rotate the doors once in place. We will also be sending the inserts to all previous orders. Thanks

 

Are you saying that the original design was to have the door come straight off the wall and not allow for it to swing and fold flat against the wall (say with the mirrors off)?

I think the description of the product should list that because now I have to find a way to custom mod it if there is not enough room where I wanted to put these.

 

Ace, just some advice, I don't think plastic spacers are the answer. The doors are heavy and difficult to line up as it is, making sure that a plastic spacer stays in place while your doing it would be really frustrating. Instead I would consider making that brace a bit thinner so the pivot has a lip above like it does on the top mount or filing a notch like I did above.

 

This would be a light press fit bushing with a tapered top to allow guidance in place with a 3/16 riser for clearance or stand-off. Made a few of the cnc lathe today after seeing your pics.Seems to work great and not allow any "metal to metal" contact. While staying located inside the tube mount.

WTF, i would want ace to pony up the cash to repaint my hinges.

 

I will agree with what others have been saying in that when I view this product I thought it would allow the doors to swing.

I am glad ACE is stepping up and fixing the design as I want to order a set in the future.

 

Glad I didn't order these. I went to Lowes and made my own for like 20 bucks.

ACE is a stand up company...hopefully they make this right for you.

 

I'm sure they will make it right, very nice folks over there. Im still planning on using mine which should be here tomorrow and still plan on getting the rear bumper/ tire carrier from them.....hopefully in a few weeks! Just one of thos "Oh Crap" moments, like opening the door and the mirror slamming into the cowl. :doh:

Agree that the BEST solution would seem to be inverting the bottom bracket... Shouldn't be difficult to make a new jig for this, right Ace?

Great to see the vendor responding here, by the way. Very cool. Now pay to fix the OP's doors... Was looking at these on the website a few days ago, planning for when I get my half doors. Nothing suggested to me you couldn't swing them once in place. In fact, it makes the most sense that one would mount the door perpendicular to the wall and then swing it flat just like the OP did.

 

WOW!!! I "ALMOST" bought these too! I'm sorry to see that happened to your doors and I do hope they help make it right for you.

I think I'll have to continue looking elsewhere or somehow come up with something on my own.

Just an update for you guys. I have been talking to Adam this morning and he has offered to pay for the repainting of the hinges among other things to. But more importantly for me, he was apologetic for all the trouble. All that's enough to show me that they are indeed a stand up company that looks out for their customers. I judge a company partly by the quality of their work but just as much by the quality of their customer service when something goes wrong, and I'm happy to say that ACE has stepped up.:thumb:

 

That's good to hear. I am considering buying an ACE mid width bumper and your comments had steered me away from that company. Glad to hear they have stepped up to make things right.

Sounds like ACE to going to make everything right for you. That is good news. I almost went with ACE and then got a great deal on the Lange hanger from my local 4 Wheel Parts store.

 

Glad to see they took care of you. Ace has always been helpful with me. Things happen I'm sure everyone agrees that wasn't his plan but hes making it right. :thumb:

What about going back to the drawing board and flipping your bottom mount to be the same direction as the top mount instead of opposing each other? This would allow both hinges on the doors to ride on the edge w/out the metal bracket right there.

Im thinking this design would work, without any additional parts being needed.

Just an idea...

 

I just got mine from the UPS man. Looking forward to installing them this weekend. Will be waiting till I get the repair pieces from ACE before really messing with the doors though.

 

Wow great timing on this thread, thanks Matador for the heads up, as I have had a set of the ACE hangers sitting in a corner of the garage for a while now just waiting to have the time to mount and then remove the doors. I too will be awaiting the tapered spacers before I move on this further. :thumb:
