I installed a Rydonair 13" stubby antenna on my wife's Recon. She says the radio reception is still fine.

 

Thank for th suggestion. I've got it on order. I am tired of my antenna getting tangled up when I put my canoe on the roof rack. Not to mention my catalpa tree in the summer. I call the metal antenna, the pimp whip.

I like it more than some of the others because this just screws right in. It doesn't require an adapter, and it sits flush at the base. Reception is fine, but I don't use the radio much so I wouldn't care either way.

 

I had a long stubby one but eventually flopped in the wind to the point it tapped on body when driving. Replaced it with a “bullet”. Issue is gone, but reception is reduced.

I got a 15" black metal spiral antenna on Amazon for under $25.00.

 

I just bent my factory one by hand to keep it out of my way.
