Am considering ordering this Red Rock drop step bar from Extreme Terrain for my 94 YJ. And am wondering what the general consensus is about ordering/dealing with these folks? And ... since I've identified the product ... anyone have any experience with this particular step/slider that you might share with me?

This is about as vague as telling your service writer that your car don't work. I have purchased a few items from Extreme Terrain and have been happy with their prices and service. Their open box buys are also a good deal if you can find something that fits your make and model.

Are you looking for an opinion on the nerf bars/side steps? The color of the jeep? Tread on the tires?

No problems with vender, the steps, I have a pair sitting outside that I pulled off the jeep and replaced with rockers. MHO, I don't like them, but to each their own. If you like them buy them, shipping is quick and returns are easy, what else could you ask for?

From the customer review section. read all the posts

A happy customer will tell three. An unhappy customer will tell ten. All vendors are having supply issues, especially when drop shipping. As stated above, use a credit card rather than a debit card when purchasing online.

Good Luck, L.M.

Generally they are good, but they use FedEx usually which is absolutely the worst shipping service in my opinion. They sent me Silverado fender flares instead of my adams driveshaft. I somehow got sent some dudes package bound for Florida, instead of my California bound package :unsure: they fixed the issue, but that meant I had to wait a few extra days for my new driveshaft

I've ordered from Extreme Terrain twice - once was 5 tires mounted + balances on new rims, the other was a more minor part. Prompt shipping, good service. The packaging was ... sufficient? ... for the tires. I also hate FedEx but the delivery guy did the best he could unloading things in the driveway in the rain. :)

I've used Extreme Terrain for two or three purchases, each consisting of several items, and was satisfied with the items, their packaging and their shipping as well. Shipping costs were variable and generally high, but I do live in Alaska (and Quadratec was wanting about double the shipping costs for the equivalent orders, so I went with Extreme Terrain for that reason).

To me it was a clearance issue, seeing that these bolt to the jeep frame. Mine looked like these,

What I did not like is that you lose a good 8" or more inches of clearance between the wheels. The ones you have pictured looks like that step would snag up on things also. So if clearance is not an issue, then by all means, do not let me stop you. I live in heavily timbered country and the roads can be a mess with downed trees and rocks, branches love to get hung up in everything, rocks, its nice to have the clearance when rolling over them.

These will work for their intended purpose, but the first time your jeeps weight is resting/sliding on a big rock, you may want to check them. My experience was the four bolts that are tapped/drilled into the frame had enough force put upon them that it somehow caused one to become loose. Like I said, for there intended use they are ok, but if you are looking for something that functions as a step and solid protection, then run something like this, it is what I have installed on mine.

If you have not bought it yet, I have those plus bumpers, sliders, corner guards, rear bumper/tire carrier and other crap I am wanting to sale, including 12,000lb winch, mounting plates, and more bumpers, only little dots of rust in spots where rocks have chipped it.

They're as good as any other. I once ordered a set of skid plates. It was a relabeled box and incomplete, but they took care of it. I generally check a bunch of sites for an item to see where I can get it cheaper/quicker/return policy, etc.
Others to check out; Quadratec, Northridge 4x4, 4WP, SUMMIT RACING. Amazon too, might have the same thing under a weird name brand for less, most likely your steps are made "out of country" anyhow.
Check out the sites of your local parts houses. I ordered and picked up my WARN winch at Auto Zone.

I appreciate all your input. I really do. There are unexpected issues, for certain, that arise from time to time. While not a huge dollar value order as some of you, your shared experiences, are very significant to me. Too ... notjustafordguy gave me plenty to ponder on the step that I simply hadn't thought about before. Experience with either the product or the business is worth so much more than an opinion ... its invaluable. Thanks to each of you again. You're all 'stand up guys'.

IDwanderer, I joined this forum as a complete Jeep newbie, and it has been more valuable to me, in so many ways, than I can tell you. It's been a veritable gold mine of information for me, and much of that information I would probably never have learned or run across otherwise.

Check Amazon, you can fine parts that are exactly the same as on Jeep sites. I bought Bestop seats $259 on one of the popular Jeep sites and that was discounted from $420.
I bought the exact Bestop seat for $159 a seat.
Shop around make sure your comparing make sure it’s apples for apples. Check who’s selling on Amazon, check return policies. Not everything is cheaper but I was surprised by how much was . Now the smaller on line stores are having trouble competing.

You know, I never had a problem with them... "Until last night! I was curious because I never asked them if they honor Veterans because there is nowhere on there site, advertising "We Honor Veterans" So I decided I would chat with someone... there reply was, "Yes we have a discount for veterans. Asked how much? She then told me I must first spend $289.00 give or take a dollar or two. She wanted to help me with my order, I then told here that I did not have that much in my cart? That was the end of the chat! So last night I added some items to my cart, it brought my total to the amount needed to get the discount. "Guess what my F-ing discount is... F-ing 4% F-ing 4% "What a F-ing Joke! I will never ever shop there again! There are plenty of Jeep shops that give 15% on any order! I apologize, guys, I never felt so Dis-Honored by a business. I really, really liked shopping there. But to have them laugh in the face of Veterans, is a disgrace! Why should you have to spend $300.00 bucks to be Honored? Sounds like they are discriminating against us NCO and honoring the officers with the big bucks? Not everyone can spend that much, its a disgrace! I am going to shut up! Damn, I liked that store, but no more. I will shop where they truly HONOR us Veterans.

To all you guys/gals that served, you are my Brother's and Sister's, We share a common bond and I Salute you all!

Update - I mentioned that I really like the store and was upset at how they treated Veterans. Anyway, I decided to call and have a long chat about what I thought about them, we settled our differences and they said they would give me a good deal on a set of RE 4" leaf springs and some U-bolts at a cost of $574.86. After I ordered them and talked to you'll about it, I decided to go with the 4.5" leaf springs at a cost of $719.46. Well one of the springs got lost in transit, and after speaking with them they said they do not know what happened to it and would send me another at a cost of $169.99. So now I am up too, $1400.91 for 4 - 4.5" leaf springs and U-bolts. Oh! They just said that they have credited my account $396.68 for my return of 4 springs, so that leaves me a total cost of only $1004.05. for 4 springs 4 u-bolts

So, as a Veteran, I can honestly say, "Boy I feel blessed to be treated to kindly"
I pity who ever decides to talk with me today, "Cause they are going to get a F#$%ing ear full!!!!!

This is just so upsetting, since I started this project, (Just wanted to pull my hinges and paint them black) but when I found I had to tear the dash apart to get them off, "It has spiraled into a monster cash eating demon!

Feeling your pain. I've dealt with about all of them. Q-tec, Morris, E.T., 4WP. Etc.
You get more info about the products from the 3rd Party vendors than Amazon. But you can't beat Amazon for shipping and delivery issues. Sometimes Amazon just doesn't have what you want.

So here's how I shop.

1. I start at Q-tec. They have the best website in my opinion. (I try and throw a few orders at them every year to help support them for using their database.)

2. Once I find what I want I take the Mfr. part number to Google to shop across the other 3rd party vendors. MORRIS 4X4 has good deals at times and carries a few things others don't.

3. I then go to Amazon if they have what I want and the price is right. My Amazon Visa cash back pays half the sales tax in addition so it's a win win. You can't beat their return support.

4. If there is a deal out there I go that route. If Amazon doesn't carry it then I go to the 3rd party vendor.

Occasionally I want to talk to the Mfr. And I'll get the part from them while I have them on the phone. But usually so I get the part that was just discussed with no miscommunication.
As mentioned above, I try and throw some money to the guys that help support the forum. But man sometimes it can be a crapshoot.

Good luck with getting it all together.

I prefer not to shop at Amazon but sometimes the deal is right. I did not pay any sales tax at the time and i had $400 dollars in gift cards. So i got a set of 4 springs for about $200 and i couldent complain about that. Other than that Amazon can take a hike.
