Hey fellow Jeepers. About two years ago I replaced my JK’s stock ‘candlelight’ headlights with GEN II LED headlights from Quadratec. They were working well until the left front headlight got smashed in by a pheasant trying to dodge me on the interstate. Went to order them but they’re back ordered so I thought I’d look into other options. What’s everyone’s thoughts for a good replacement? Just need a good headlight, don’t need any colored rings in it like I’ve seen in some. Thanks! 👍😎

Go back to Quadratec and order the GenII headlights for the TJ. The only difference between the ones for the TJ (H4) connector is the adapter from H13 to H4 with the anti-flicker pulse width modulator (that square block in the middle of the adapter). You already have that.

In fact, I would do one thing even before you buy new headlights - swap them from side to side. If the one on the left side is out and the one on the right on, you know it's not the headlights. It may be the PWM has gone bad. They are available separately. You did not indicate if it is the low beam only out or both high and low. If it looks like it's the adapter, swap them from side to side and see if the issue moves. If it does not, and you have swapped the headlights first, it's not the headlights.

While they are shown to be out of stock until Oct 12. If you kept your original headlights, simply pop them back in until you get the new parts. It's hard to beat a $50 fix for the headlights.

If you have to, and don't have the original headlights anymore, you can drop a pair of standard H4 Phillips/Sylvania or other headlights in on a temporary basis with a set of KC-Hilites H4 to H13 adapters. The total would be about $40.

BTW the Quadratec GenIIs came with a 3 year warranty.

If my '17 Chief had not come with the Mopar factory LED headlights, it would have the GenIIs as well. Comparing the light output of the factory LEDs and the GENIIs, I think they are equal on low beam and the GenIIs are better on high beam.

They are still available. I went from the stock 13 year old sealed beams (were still the originals) to the Hella Vision Plus from Amazon along with the Hella Vision Plus H4 conversion headlights. The stock Hella bulbs weren't as good as I liked, so I installed the Osram Night Breaker bulbs which were a brighter white. I made a mistake and bought a set of cheap H13 to H4 pigtails and one pin in the H13 socket kept pushing out rather than connecting. I then bought a good set of KC-HiLite pigtails. Here are the links:

All three pieces list on Amazon for about $148. The H13 to H4 adapters are now more expensive than 5 years ago, but the Hellas and bulbs are a little less.

They were better than the factory lights, but when I bought my '17 Chief which came with factory LEDs, I could really see the difference. So, I put the GenIIs in the TJ. I also a typical issue with headlights that have bulbs. If the seal on the back is not rear good you and get moisture inside the housing with high humidity. When I put the GenIIs in the TJ, I tossed the Hellas.

The GenIIs are a relative bargain for a good LED headlight for $330 list for the JK and $300 list for the TJ (no PWM adapter pigtail). I would not go back to incandescent headlights. In fact, I have just about replaced all the bulbs in my light fixtures in my home with 6000K 1500 Lumen light bulbs. Makes a big difference in lighting.

srjeepin - just order the GenIIs for the CJ/TJ. They are in stock since they don't need the pulse width modulator. They are under $300 for the pair. Leave the second in the box as a spare.

The light output wasn't really all that much better than stock on a TJ compared to the LEDs. I actually had ecode headlights on my 1966 TR-4 (in 1966), except they were Lucas housings with the Osram bulbs. But in those days that was as good as you could get. When I got my '17 with factory LEDs, they really showed the improvement of LEDs over any halogen headlight. I was happy with the Hellas in my TJ until I drove my JKU at night with the factory LEDs. Within a few months I had the LEDs in the TJ as well.

My goodness you people like to spend a lot of money on lights. I bought these led from Wish 2 years ago for $67 for my yj. Usually I don't do night driving, but get caught coming home in the dark from a friend's house. Low beam is better than high beam lighting both lanes and the shoulders of the road down to the ditch line.

I wouldn't run a light without DOT approval. Way too much risk.

Five years ago the best DOT approved lights were the JW Speaker lights based on the YouTube video shootout done by Headlight Revolution. The KC Hilites Gravity Pros weren't available five years ago but look very interesting. I have enjoyed KC products for decades.

I don't think DOT certifies them either. DOT sets up the specs and the manufacturer is supposed to ensure that they adhere to the spec if they put DOT on the lens. But, we all know that all of the overseas produced headlights with DOT on them comply right?

The stock H13 headlights comply, we know the euro spec headlights do not and neither do most of the LEDs. So therefore the stock H13 headlights on our Jeeps must therefore be the best - right?

All of the American engineered headlights comply, Trucklite, JW Speaker and VisionX to name some. It is one reason I posted the video. You buy a knockoff from Amazon and it is a hit or a miss. And when it is a miss it really sucks for the other drivers.

The Euro specs have more of a cut off than the U.S. and then a kickup to the right to illuminate the shoulder. Also factory TJ headlights were sealed beam, not bulb type headlights.
