Bike or Mountain Bike Inside 4 Door?

I am looking at buying a 2013 4-Door Automatic. I would like to remove a rear seat, and put my mountain bike in the car, hopefully upright. I will need to remove the front tire, at least. Hopefully not the back tire. (my bikes have screw thru axles not all are quickrelease).

Does anyone do this, do you have pictures or info? The bars are 30" wide (+/-). They are full suspension so a little longer on the front end than most bikes.

Thanks, Erica

I have a 2 door and use a hitch rack...but I believe the back seat in the 4 doors fold down pretty well. Removing the front wheel would allow it to fit pretty well with room to spare...I'm assuming here but don't see why it wouldn't. I could probably even get a bike in the back of my 2 door with the seat removed.

Erica,

I have a Jamis Citizen II hybrid, and with the front wheel/tire off it fits. All I do is put the rear seats down, and just very carefully lift the bike through a rear door as to not scuff the paint. Now, I lay mine down.....standing up wouldn't be an issue if you took the top off and had some tie downs.

I have fit three mountain bikes in the back of my JKUS. Two were full suspension and the third was my hardtail. You have to remove the front wheels and the seat/post for larger frames/29'ers. Fold down the wider side of the split bench seat and bungee the bikes to the roll bar in the back. Plenty of room. I plan on getting some fork mounts and bolting them to a board to place in the back, I have had no luck finding a mounting bar of an appropriate length.

(This is with the hardtop on and removed)

I have a medium frame mountain bike that I can put in standing up with the front wheel removed and the right half of the seats folded down. The seat hits the rear of the sport bar by the dome light and holds itself up. I could throw the whole bike in without removing the front wheel if both sides are down but I have a kiddie seat to contend with.

Don't think I would want to go through the trouble of removing the rear seat. Once they are folded the rear cargo area is pretty flat and I don't think that for your stated purpose you would get that much benefit. I put a piece of plywood with a simply fork hitch on it to keep it from moving around while upright.
