Blinking alarm light, but no alarm...?

On two separate occasions, I've noticed my red alarm light (the blinking one in the upper right corner of the dash that flashes when the alarm is activated) blinking happily away as I'm driving. Both times it stopped after cycling the ignition. No adverse conditions were apparent and the Jeep didn't exhibit any signs of a malfunction, either time. The light does come on along with all the idiot lights at start-up then goes out in similar fashion. I just find this to be strange since I don't have an alarm. Any input on this? Thanks!

Mine did the same thing several times also seemed to happen after hitting a bump in a corner , no factory alarm either , the horn would honk once then light would flash til I cycled the ignition.
But since I changed to 10a springs and re-centered the steering wheel it has stopped
I don't know if centering the wheel had anything to do with it but i'm glad it has stopped. good luck.

You may not have a factory alarm/security system, but the ignition uses a sentry key (Chipped key) that talks to the computer. If there's a problem with the key or the module then the light will blink to indicate a malfunction.

The sentry key is standard on all JKs.

Thanks for the answers. My horn didn't honk either time. I just happened to notice it blinking for no apparent reason. I can't say if there was a common denominator as to why it happened either time. My first assumption was the Sentry Key, but never had a problem that, either. My steering wheel is slightly off - center after installing my suspension, so I'll try centering it and see if I notice the light again. Thanks for the suggestions! :thumb:

Security Light Blinking while driving

Today a little light above my temp gauge began to blink. I checked the manual and found this:

17. Vehicle Security Light — If Equipped This light will flash at a fast rate for approximately 15 seconds, when the vehicle security alarm is arming.

The problem is, this occurred while driving. I've read this can be a sign of a key going bad and that, if that occurs, the Jeep will shut off and not start. That has me pretty freaked out because I'm often on some very remote roads with no cell service. Should I get a new key from the dealership? Always carry my spare key? Or is it not key related at all?

Any advice is appreciated.

Its not arming - it's telling you it's going to freak out one day and leave you stranded because it cant tell the key is the right chip. Part of what you are seeing is the alarm light, but that's not what's making it light up in this case. What's triggering the blinking is a fault somewhere - the key, or the Jeep..

I had this happen once after working on the dash, under the steering wheel is a harness connector. I had disconnected it while working on something, and didn't clip it together tight. I'd check that even if you didn't mess with it.

Otherwise you might want to check in with the dealer before you get stranded.

I had the same issue with my 2015 JKU about a month ago. Noticed alarm light blinking while driving. Stopped the car, cycled the ignition, and it went away.

One new issue (and I don't know if it's related to the alarm light blinking) is that my touch screen on my 430N has stopped working. The radio still functions via steering wheel controls and side buttons, but the touch screen no longer works and I can't access many radio/nav/equilizer functions.

I didn't know if the radio might disable the touch screen functionality if the alarm is compromised.

Stumped!

I doubt the incident a month ago with the key caused the radio issue but a incident could have caused the glitch in both the key alarm and radio if it happened at the same time.
