Caster and toe

Can any experienced alignment folks comment on the ideal specs for a JL Wrangler that's running a small lift kit?

I'd like to know where caster and toe should be, specifically, for the best handling on the road.

Thanks. So, shoot for 5.5° of positive caster.

Is this picture correct? Because I see it shown both ways on the 'web.

Caster is a trade off between how much pinion angle you’re willing to stress the front drive shaft u-joint. More positive caster the better the ride (lack of wandering) the more it stresses the joint (higher pinion angle number) and the sooner you’ll get joint failier. In a perfect world, the pinion angle should be near zero. If your Jeep is lifted, this is only achievable by relocating the front control arm axle mounts. No simple job which requires cutting and welding. So the angles are all really dependent on the lift height and vehicle specific. Hope this makes sense.

Do you mean cutting and rotating the inner-Cs? Otherwise, castor and pinion angle can be changed with adjustable control arms, just not separately from each other.

I'm going to get the alignment checked Saturday when I get my KO2s mounted. If it's 3 degrees or a little more I'm going to leave it alone. If it's less than that I'll start saving money for LCAs.

As an FYI to those following this, just wanted to share the numbers off of my JLUR. Had it on the rack a couple of days ago for tire rotation and alignment check, stock suspension and tires.

Before adjustment:

Left Camber -0.6 Caster 4.8 Toe .16 Right Camber -0.4 Caster 5.0 Toe .21

After adjustment:

Left Camber -0.6 Caster 4.8 Toe .14 Right Camber -0.4 Caster 5.0 Toe .15

Do you mean Caster? also how did they adjust it?

As far as I know the only thing adjustable on a Wrangler off the assembly line (no mods) is toe and centering the steering wheel. Unless something has changed with the JL, any alignment shop talking about caster and camber don’t know what they’re doing or are just scammers.

Tonight, I used a digital angle finder to check the caster on my Sport with the RC 2.5 spacer lift and stock control arms. My driveway is at approximately 1.5 degrees, so I have to subtract that out of my figures. My caster was showing somewhere between 6.0 to 7.0 degrees when measured at the driver side knuckle. So I'm at somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5 degrees. It's hard to get perfect readings in the driveway, hence the margin of error. But it's definitely within that range.

I'm still going to have it checked on the rack this Saturday, but if their numbers match mine I'll forget the LCAs and spend the money elsewhere.
