I believe most of the cost is the actual install, so it may very depending on who does it.
Supposedly its not too hard to do but time consuming.

 

Parts are $500-600 (regardless of the gear ratio) and labor between $800-1200.

 

Have you changed the tire size with a programmer ? It will help with shift points and correct your speedo . For gears I went with Rebel offroad. Motive Gear Package for Jeep Wrangler JK MASTER INSTALL
Your probably looking at another $350 $450 for each axle for install.

 

I do - I use a FlashCal and set if for measured diameter and then I fine tune it further so the speedo matches my GPS at 70mph.

Got a quote from a reputable shop here in Austin for around $1500 - $600 for the gear sets and $450 an axle.

 

Labor = $1,000
Parts = $500

 

Regear cost me about $10000.....I mean, it didn't start out so high, but when I figured I may as well throw in some ProRocks, Air lockers, 4.56s, shafts, etc, etc it turned out that way.

 

This is the shyte I'm afraid of! ... must....wait.... as long....as I can.

 

Buy your own parts and just pay for the install. I got Alloy gears off JC Whitney and Motive gear master install sets off eBay for total $525. Shop charged me $680 to install.

 

Everyone's numbers seem to be about right. My suggestion would be to go with the master install even with a newer jeep. Many shops won't do it without a master. Also you are more likely to have issues going with the minor. If a bearing is slightly off or something is slightly bent you end up with noise.

The local shop did quote a master install kit as part of the $600 price for the Yukon gear set.

 

I paid 2k, but the 4.56 I think is to put the axle ratio back to factory specs for 35s. There are charts somewhere on this forum that talk about how to put it back to factory for the various tire sizes.

 

just had Yukon 5.13s w/master install kits from River City Offroad ($600) installed for about $600 but I also had a rear locker upgrade that added a few extra hundred in the labor ....figure approx $750 $1000 in labor @ABOut 10-12hours for gears depending on who ya know or where you trust to do it right....to reiterate, gears +labor for a day total cost about $1500 total ....I'm sure there are cheaper and more expensive depending on where one is geographically ....EVO has that $999 regear special if ya live out West....ask other local Jeepers is how I found out a quality shop ....

I have thought about this re-gear as well. What can be expected of MPG going to the 4.56 from 3.73? A big drop in mileage running 35's and 4.56 from 35's and 3.73?

 

For once I am glad I am in Jersey . $995.00 parts & labor for 4.56 in a JK

The "best" shop here changes $2,200 total. I'll call around and check some more. That is a pretty high price but these guys are pretty much the best and help out Jeepers a lot in general- sometimes by even convincing you to not buy stuff. I'll check with a few more reputable places though. The 4.10s are getting harder and harder to bear.
