Unfortunately yes. Dead batteries and JL Wranglers go together like peanut butter and jelly.

I don’t know 4xe enough to be of help. On other JLs, the problem is the charging system not working properly.

Time to call Roadside Assistance and have it towed to the dealer.

 

The battery for starting the motor is separate from the battery it drives on. You could check to make sure the cables are tight, but like @aldo90731 said above, it should be covered. Call the dealer and have them arrange a pickup.

 

If the charging cable is connected, the Jeep will not start or do anything. You may want to try plugging-in and unplugging again to see if it clears the switch.

In hybrid cars, the whole electric system is often integrated in such a way, that it the hybrid system fails, car will not drive. So the problem is not necessarily in the "normal" 12 volt battery side.

However, if the car is completely dead, the 12 volt battery is dead, or disconnected. Can be a shitty job to figure out what killed it.

The cable being plugged in might prevent start, but it will not cause blackout.

First thing to check is what @Erik Latranyi pointed out. make sure the charging cable is disconnected. Next is to make sure the connections to the 12v battery are secure. If it still won't start and doors still won't unlock electronically then I would check the fuse for the IDCM (F09). The IDCM is responsible for a lot of things in the hybrid system and two of those things are converting power to charge the main battery, and charging the 12v battery. I Would think a code would be thrown if this component was malfunctioning but worth taking a look at if the simpler things don't do the job. After that its def a dealer call. Two days old so literally everything is under warranty.

Fuses not being seated all the way down are a common problem for the new Jeeps. Before you get too involved in a lengthy troubleshooting ordeal, remove the fuse box cover and press down on each fuse to check if any are not fully seated.

 

4xe will start with charger plugged in.
Won’t drive until it’s unplugged.

 

Did you figure out what the problem was? Our died yesterday, only had it 3 weeks.

Oh boy, reading the 4xe forum really makes it clear I made the right choice when choosing between this 2016 v6 and the 4xe...

Overall, and especially because I'm a real lemon picker.

 

I'll throw out that I'm about to pass 2000 miles on my 4xe with 0 problems so far. Level 2 charger is a champ and I highly recommend. Sad that the OP had issues from day 2, sounds like a lemon.

 

My 3 month old 4X3 with 3K miles on it started with the engine light on and not starting or if it would start would stay on both gas and electric and i i could not switch to electric or gas only. After 3 weeks in the shop i am told this week that it’s needs a power inverter and it will be the end of October before the part can be “built” and shipped.
