Dexron 4 ??? Transmission experts needed!

I recently had my 2014 Transmission fluid changed and my mechanic used ATF 4. Since I just got it done, my wife also had her 2014 JK transmission fluid changed (pan drop-not a flush) at a transmission shop (we both have just over 100k miles)...and the place she took it to used Dexron 4. Thinking that we should use ATF 4, I called the shop and spoke to the mechanic. He told me everything is fine. I argued with the guy but he insisted and sounded pretty confident. So I got on the phone and called two more transmission shops and they also told me the same thing- using Dexron 4 in her jeep for a pan drop fluid change is fine. No worries.

Why are 3 separate transmission shop mechanics telling me not to worry but the Jeep forums say something different? Am I getting something confused? Again, the transmission shop used Dexron 4 in my wife's JK (not Dexron 3).

Should I run out and get a black bottle of Lubegard? Is her transmission toast? Am I totally over reacting?

What’s the difference between ATF+4 and Dexron transmission fluid?

The biggest difference between these are the additives in them. I’m not a chemical engine so I can’t give the exact differences but they are big.

ATF+4 has specific additives designed for specific Chrysler transmissions. The additives and the make up of the fluid keeps the transmission working properly. If you put the wrong fluid in at best it won’t shift right, at worst it will ruin the transmission.

Dexron is the same thing only for Chevy vehicles.

Dexron III is a standard conventional transmission fluid. Used in older Chevy transmissions. Dexron VI is synthetic fluid. Used in newer vehicles. Chevy has said if the transmission calls for Dexron IV you should use Dexron V instead as it’s a better fluid.

So the biggest difference between the two is what vehicles they are designed to be used in and the additives that are them specifically for those vehicles transmissions. Make sure that you always use the transmission fluid your vehicles transmission calls for you can damage the transmission.

^^^ The above is what I found, when I looked it up. I had the Dealer service mine a couple of months ago. They installed ATF+4 IN MINE.

Thanks for the reply, and yes, I know the two types are vehicle specific with different additives. However, my main concern and question is will a couple of quarts of synthetic Dexron 4 mixed with synthetic ATF 4 create some sort of problem in a 2014 JK transmission?. According to the 3 transmission shops that I called, it won't. According to some posts on varying Jeep forums, it could. Some say no big deal, others say it's a big deal.

Note: It seems to me if all these transmission shops are putting Dexron 4 in Jeep pan drop trans fluid changes, there would be major problems everywhere and these shops would stop doing it.
