Door Glass Scratches

Howdy. I have a question about door glass. My drivers side door window is getting some hellacious scratches on the outside.(No one really rides with me to roll down the other ones) The dude that tinted those windows said it was bound to happen because of how tight the seal is. The tints another issue that’s starting to annoy me.:censored::censored:

At any rate.. Is this a common issue or not an issue at all out there? I tried searching here but didn’t find anything relevant. I bought some polishing compound but may need a buffer, not sure.

Thanks,

It is something not limited to Jeeps- the door glass squeegees in the weatherstrip can get grit particles washed down the glass which lands in the gap in the weatherstrip. This causes vertical scratches in the glass as the window is put up/down. The more grit the vehicle is exposed to, the greater the likelihood of scratches. I don't think these types of scratches will polish out. You can certainly try, but I am not anticipating much improvement.

On my VW, I had them on the inside of the door glass- the wife was prone to using an emery board on her nails while riding in the car. The A/C would blow those particles everywhere, with some landing in the side window channels, causing deep vertical scratches on the glass when the window was lowered and raised.

Just noticed this about 2 weeks ago when I came back from some light off roading. Washed the Jeep, and when I rolled down/up the driver window the next day, half the window had vertical lines. Bugged me at first. Rolled it all the way down and half a** wiped the strip that rubs the widow at the base of the door and most went away. Sure if I tried I could get it all. Just been too busy / lazy to do

Same thing happened to my driver side window on both the inside and outside. Scratched the hell out of my tint also. I'll have to get a few more good scratches in the tint before I go to have it redone though.

Thanks guys. Its bugging the crap outta me but I will get over it I think.I noticed a scraping noise a few days ago but had a senior moment and couldn’t think of a way to clean the weather strip. I have cleaned the strip since but it is all scratched up. Shame on me i suppose.

Got off work and grabbed a clean microfiber towel from the Jeep. Wiped front and back of window. Then rolled it down all the way, and with the towel damp, I scrubbed the strip pretty good. Let it dry. Then hit it with the air compressor to blow away any stragglers. Seems to be all gone. And streaking or scratches.

That is essentially what I did, may have to go through again. The scraping/nails on chalkboard sound is gone. Windows are clean. Took some polishing compound and wiped the window. Scratches diminished a little. I can’t really see the, when I am driving, but I know they are there. :)
Gonna find my buffer and try that out. If I can’t find it it’s time for elbow grease!! :punk:

Because it’s not rubber and some kind of composite felt and get sand trapped in it, noticed it when I roll down my windows and it sounded like somebody was sanding. The windows are trash design.
