My 2006 Sport with the 42RLE has been plagued by the PCM issues commonly found in 2005-2006 TJs.

Had the original PCM “rebuilt” a few months ago, which did absolutely nothing. CEL returned immediately.

Installed a PCM that I purchased from FS1 about a month ago. Drove 40 trouble free miles prior to heading on a 300 mile one way trip into the Sierra Nevada mountains for a wheeling trip this weekend. Headed out of camp Saturday morning and the rig would no longer shift past second gear. Hit the trail and put the gear selector into first gear. Rig wouldn’t hold first gear and would constantly shift into second gear. Then the CEL illuminated with a bunch of codes I’d never seen before. Not the same codes that were constantly present with the original PCM.

Thankfully I brought the original PCM with me on the trip. Swapped the malfunctioning FS1 PCM out and continued on the run.

Going to make a warranty claim Tuesday morning with FS1. Hopefully they can send me a PCM that works properly.

I will update the thread with the results of my warranty claim. If they send me a replacement PCM I will also update the thread with functionality results.

Sure sounds like a bad one. Hopefully they will let you know what happened.

I would file the claim. It doesn't matter anything about the company, fix, or anything. If you contacted customer service and they provided a timeframe, which wasn't honored, you need to protect yourself.

I wouldnt waste my time anymore.

There have been successful reports on the Wranglerfix, but every one I have seen is from a new member (less than 50 posts)...

Welcome to Wranglerfix.com
The only proven fix for the 05-06 TJ Wrangler PCM!
The PCM comes with a 1 year warranty.

Not very confident in their "only proven fix" or it would come with a lifetime warranty IMO. It must be a proven temporary fix.

Day 8 Update:

Still have not received the necessary documents to return the defective PCM to FS1. Ordered a PCM from wranglerfix this morning.

Wouldn’t be surprised if FS1 sends me a replacement PCM once they dispute my chargeback but I can’t wait any longer to get my rig up and running.

I will post some comparison pics of the two PCMs and let everyone know how the wranglerfix PCM functions.

I’ll absolutely follow through to the end. Quite disappointing that many of us have non-functional rigs due to computer issues. At least with the OPDA issues inherent to the later year TJs you can swap in a new camshaft in an afternoon of wrenching. This computer nonsense is a joke. After 26 years of CJ/YJ/TJ/XJ ownership I’m actually considering building a solid axle 1st gen 4Runner. Can’t handle any more of these reliability issues.

Received tracking info from wranglerfix for my new PCM. Looking forward to installing the new PCM and putting some road miles on the rig before I head to the desert in November for Panamint Valley Days.

Once I receive the new PCM I will start a new thread focused on my experience with the wranglerfix PCM.

Hope we can get everyone’s rigs back up and fully functional.

Any update since Oct post?
I've been running with my check light on for several years now but am finally forced to get this fixed, to get the Jeep smogged.
My local mechanic also has an '05 Wrangler and solved his with FS1 and has told me to get from them. Gonna give it a shot despite this thread. Unless there is any good news with wranglerfix option. ??

------ Last second decision to purchase from WFix instead. Crossing my fingers!

Quick update
I went with wranglerfix. Couldn't have been easier. I paid for expedited shipping cause I needed to get smogged soon. Got the pcm in 4 days. Switched it out, eng light off, got it smogged. All is good. Kept the original incase I have problems down the road.

As for install. I wasn't sure if there is a certain step by step process so I did some googling. Didn't find much. What I ended up doing is disonnecting the battery and removing the old.
Put a dab of dielectric grease on each of the female connector points. Installed and re-connected the battery.
I let it sit for probably 10 mins or so.
Then I turned the ign to on without cranking the engine. Left it like that for over a min. During that time, the check eng light came on steady for a while, then it blinked a few times.... then either went off or stayed on, can't remember.
But then I started the engine and no light and all good.

Four months later and I still have not received a replacement PCM from FS1. They will not return my calls or process the warranty claim. However, they were more than happy to fight the chargeback I filed with the credit card company. Unfortunately, I lost the dispute against FS1 with MasterCard.

FS1 requires that one specific service advisor processes your warranty claim. I was never able to speak with that advisor after the initial warranty claim. Requested to speak with a a manager but nobody was ever available. Of course a manager never returned my call.

The Wranglerfix PCM functions perfectly after four months. No CEL and no other issues.

You have been warned.

FS1 is the LAST place I'd order a PCM from, I am convinced they're run by shysters.

I'd re-protest the decision and threaten to cancel the card. Ask to speak directly to a CC supervisor. If I didn't get satisfaction, I'd find a zero interest offer from a different CC company and transfer the balance.

Keep us posted on what happens.

Good Luck, L.M.
