Fluid leak drivers side front wheel well

I have a 2018 Recon with 10,000 miles on it. Has not been through any deep water. I noticed drips on the concrete and looking further, saw that my shock tower and spring in the left front wheel well and the rear of the wheel well had signs of some type of fluid leaking. Under warranty I brought it to the Jeep dealer I purchased it from. The service rep came out and said that the front differential vent was leaking from the vent tube and that they checked the level and it was over filled. He went on to say that they would not charge me for the service. I thought to myself I would hope not. Looked at the service sheet and they had written, “front differential vent leaking from over filling, aftermarket cover was installed.”
I had him explain what he meant by aftermarket covers installed. He went on to say, that the stock covers were not on the differential and cast covers were put on with red RTV and factory does not use red RTV. I said The Recon has cast covers from factory and the only place I brought it to was to a dealer in Tulsa for an oil change. I told him to look up the specs on the Recon. I told him that I was not going accept the service explanation since it made it sound like someone other then a dealer or factory over filled the differential. The explanation on the service was changed deleting the aftermarket cover was installed.

So I checked with the Tulsa dealer and they would not have serviced the differential for an oil change...that leads to over filling at the factory. I did not see any signs of leaking until just recently you would think it would have shown up with drips on the concrete right from the beginning. Hopefully there was no damage done to the front differential. Since They don’t see many Recons come through I guess I should give the service tech and rep a pass.

things that make you want to scream. I too have a recon and never have had either cover off and mine has never been to a dealer since picking it up brand new and it does have red rvt.

It is a shame how bad the dealers are today.
They know absolutely nothing about the product they sell.

Back in the early '70's, when I picked up my first CJ2a, the local jeep dealer hosted the weekly club meetings, arranged the trail rides, discounted EVERYTHING from the Jeep itself, to winches, wheels and on and on. I worked for him as a service writer for awhile, and my first instruction, from the owner was, no one runs out of warranty, if someone that buys a vehicle from me has a problem, and their warranty has expired, find a vehicle that has warranty and use it, period!!!

Imagine finding a dealer today that actually cares about the customer???
Majority of dealers today, as well as the guys who sell, and work on them are clueless.
They have no idea what they will/can do, and don't give a shit. Get your money, and get you out the door.

progress right?

My 2017 non recon was also overfilled in the front from the factory. And my dealer was also inept at understanding the issue when I asked them to change the fluid and put in the correct amount because it was leaking oil out the breather tube. They called me after an hour saying they couldn't find any leaks around the cover, had to re-explain to them before they finally did what they were supposed to do. This was before I changed to aftermarket diff covers of course.

Umm my rear diff recently had the locker replaced by a dealership. They gave me the same crap about black sealant. They used red to seal it...

What bugs me is I have done way more work on vehicles than average people. I know 3 colors of rtv sealant. Grey, black, and copper. The only red I encountered was not typical and was ment to be able to cure without air.

Mine blew oil out the front vent also. Only showed up after a long hi speed drive. I put new covers on and used synthetic with additive in it. Foamed like crazy. Drain and refilled it. All ok. Did it again after the dealer put new lockers in. I was on a trip had 25000 miles on it and said to myself “ it’s under warranty if it blows up it’s their problem” drove on ( sucky trip I was in a bad mood). Stopped leaking after a few hundred miles. Seemed to blow more out at higher speeds(75mph). When I got where I could check it,it was just below the fill hole. Hasn’t leaked since. Seriously doubt yours has any damage. A little oil makes a big mess.
