Ford 8.8 Pinion Angle

LAST QUESTION ABOUT MY 8.8 AXLE I SWEAR :hide:

In setting up my pinion angle, I'll need to take in account the 4" of lift. I just ordered a AA SYE kit and new CV/DS from Tom Wood's along with adjustable UCAs from Currie :dance:

I'm currently at stock height, but in the near future I plan on doing a 4" lift. Do I take into account now the lift in setting up pinion angle, or just go with the stock pinion angle... or should I even just meet somewhere in the middle? While I can afford the lift now, I don't have extra for the tires and the regear, so that's going to be put on hold for right now.

The future 4" lift height will definitely change what is the correct pinion angle. You can set it now while you are unlifted but you will need to readjust it once you install the 4" lift.

The pinion angle requirement for a CV driveshaft is pretty precise. The pinion shaft can be pointing 1-2 degrees under that of the driveshaft, or equal to the driveshaft's angle but it cannot be pointing even a single degree above the driveshaft. That essentially means the pinion shaft needs to be pointing directly at the CV joint or perhaps 1-2 degrees at the most below it.

I just stuck the angle finder to the driveshaft and got the angle (my setup was 15 degrees) I adjusted the pinion to exactly that by sticking the angle finder to the bottom of the pumpkin on the flat "shelf" and cranked away on the control arms til I hit the magic number.Then I backed off a degree. When you load the axle it tends to 'wrap' or twist up just a tad.
