I saw some stuff in an aerosol can made by Loc-Tight that claims to freeze rusted nuts and bolts for "easier removal". Sounds like liquid nitrogen in a spray bomb. Has anyone tried it?
:doh:So if ya make a nut smaller, how's it going to make it easier to get off???
I was thinking the same thing. The dust spray makes grass crispy.heat/cold will help frozen parts if you use it right (heat the female side, then rapidly cool the male side while trying to loosen it)
I once tried to remove an electromechanical elevation actuator from a missile launcher. The tool we had to do it was the largest freakiest looking gear puller you've ever seen, and we snapped one of the arms off. then tried a winch and drug the launcher sideways on it's actuators... finally got an oxy/acy torch on it and heated the entire ball joint up, dumped a quart of water on the center post, and the whole thing slid right off by hand.
I think liquid nitrogen in a spray bomb would help seized nuts, so long as you only spray the bolt it's on, and if you heat the nut and bolt first, and chill just the bolt, it should have an even more pronounced effect.
Is the loc-tite stuff cheaper than that keyboard duster canned air stuff? bet it's pretty close to being the same thing![]()
Used the CRC brand recently on a seized lugnut, worked very well.I think I'd have to partially disagree. I've never used the Loctite brand, but in the shop we use Freeze Off by CRC, same concept, and it works wonders. It doesn't work QUITE as well as a torch, but when you can't use a torch it definitely helps.
