Goodyear Wrangler MT/R review

Has anyone had and experience with Goodyear wrangler MT/R tires. I have enough money saved up or my lift and now I am saving for a set of 33x12.5x15. I really like these tires. My brother has a set I duratracks on his tj and I'm looking for Something a little more aggressive. And also does anyone have a clue how long these tires last for mileage wise. And also do they wear evenly?

I have 33/12.5/15 MTR/K's on my yj. I've put ~850 miles on them so can't say how they wear. But they ride great. They're much quieter than the worn mud tires I had previously.

I haven't been let down in any terrain yet. Especially snow. In unpacked snow they're tanks. In hard pack (ice) they aren't the best (or the worst). But I don't think you'll find an aggressive tire like you're looking for that will do well on ice or hard packed snow. Because the amount of siping required to get decent traction on that is way too much siping for a mud terrain.

I think these are really really great tires. If you drive on a lot of hard pack, chains might help. I'll probably get a set by next winter to keep in the jeep just in case.

I had the 33 12.5 15s & before the the non-kevlar version. LOVED THEM. grabbed the pavement like nobody's buisness and I consider that they've saved my ass more than once. low road noise, never felt like balloons going thru snow or puddles. in every way (on pavement) they kicked ass.

I hear great things about them on rocks and though I rock crawled w/ them, I don't know what the hell I'm doing & have no idea if they handled better than others.

when they got around 36k they started to get loud. in their defense it's because of the way they wore & that I never rotated them. had plenty of meat left but for the sake of being able to hear the radio, that's when I replaced them.

I had a set of 31" MT/R on my TJ, they were great in mud, trails, and rocks. I never really had issues hydroplaning with them, however, I have heard also that they are terrible in ice/hard packed snow, as others have said. I never got to try mine out on ice/snow because, well that doesn't usually happen in Alabama (with the exception of this year of course). If you look at someone of the online tire resellers they have ICE/SNOW ratings on them, as well as ratings for other terrains from thousands of people that use them. That might be a better resource to check things out.

Thanks for the help. Most likely i will probably be getting them once i get the money. i live in connecticut and snow is a common thing but its not as often as say vermont or even canada.

I have a close friend that got 50k + out of his last set, and then gripped great, never chunked, and he liked them. Toward the end of their life, he started to get a little wander. Then he went to the Nitto Mud Grappler like I run, and has already chunked two tires. Overall, his review was positive of the Kevlars...

Last set I had I got about 55k on. (5 37-12.50 r17). Slight chunking. They ran real quiet for a mud tire up until about the last 5-10 thousand miles. They started getting noticeably louder. I thought they did well in the snow. I sold the jeep they were on.
I bought another set for my new jeep. Only have 1000 miles on this set.
I think the biggest issue with this tire is the amount of weight it takes to balance. The nitto and toyo tires 38" I use on my truck take much less.

Did anyone have issues with their MTR's pulling to the right? I've heard a few people complain about this and mine also pull a little. The place that installed them said it's just an issue withy the tread design. When I swap to other tires the problem goes away, put the MTR's back on (even put in different locations) and the right hand pull comes back. I'm running 35x12.5R17 MTR w/Kevlar.

It is a stiff-sidewall tire- I would never run anything MTR except for C. Fortunately, they come in C in 15 and 17 wheel sizes, unlike the Nittos and Toyos. BTW, that added weight (~18 lbs per tire) on the Nittos and Toyos- that mainly comes from the extra tread plies.
