I'm a handicapped girl that have always loved jeeps. Everything from the inline 6 TJ to the JK Unlimited. I'm on a fixed income because i'm disabled. But I'm planing to pay down all my credit cards so i can use them for a down payment on my first jeep. My question is since I need to haul my power wheelchair would I be better of getting a TJ or a JK Unlimited.

Thanks in Advance:
Alice

I Love the inline 6 of the tj.

Do you haul the wheel chair on one of them bumper mounted carriers like this?

If you do i would get a JK because CJ's YJ's and TJ's used the same crappy rear cross member and i would not put a lot of tongue weight on one because they crack and bend. The JK's rear frame looks like it would hold up better because it stick out the rear by about a foot and could probably accept a class 3 hitch and support the weight better.
yeah i herd the jk had a lot chaise upgrades. and yes i was thinking a carrier off the back like that. but i worry if it would affect stability putting so much weight on the back.

The longer wheel base of the TJ unlimited should help if you hook up a carrier like the one above. However prices for the unlimited are stupid high right now.

While you're paying down your credit cards, stash away a few bucks if you can, and wait for the JK pick up to come out. Then you can have a power lift installed to put your power wheelchair in the bed without worrying about tongue load.

I always advise anyone that'll listen to not go offroad alone. I'll bet big bucks you can find a bunch of Jeepers that'll be more than glad to have you along and will help in any way you need.

Good Luck, L.M.

Alice,
Glad you are still living life! I would try contacting some of the big Jeep clubs, like Red Rock in Utah. You might even send a note to the veterans association, even if not a vet. They might be able to start you in the right Direction. I would think some organizations would be able to help you even with funding to get you setup in a Jeep! Also try writing to JP magazine, and see what they respond back with.
