Hello, I rolled my 2002 Jeep Wrangler in the summer of 2008. My Jeep wasnt totalled but the body was somewhat twisted... The guy who did the work said that eventually my hard top could come off the jeep, but its been a few years and i haven't tried to take it off yet. :nonono:

I know that the tops are made of fiberglass so if the pressure from the body was holding onto the top it would have cracked by now, right??? Pictures wouldn't help you understand this situation because it looks perfectly fine on the outside. I hope I can get some adivce if i should try to take the top off or not!
Thank you!!

Go to the search function and type in "hard top removal".

You'll find a bunch of threads on it, they can be a bugger to get off. The seal between the top and tub tends to weld itself on. Check the treads for tips.

I'd try and be more help but I've never owned a hard top, mine have always been softies.

I'm sorry to hear about your softies...

and I've head liberal amounts of alcohol help get tops off...

but seriously:

There should be bolts along each rail where the top sits, and two clamps at the top of the windshied (really big, can't miss). after removing the bolts and undoing the clamps, you should just have to break the seal where the top sits, I've heard of people pushing by the clamps to use the overhang over the front seats as leverage.

but alas, I have also been gifted with a softie, and we have never removed the hard top from our jeep with one.

Best of luck to you :flowers:

behind your windshield visors are two 'buckle' type clamps. Release them-and the front of the hard top is undone. Now look down the inside of the rear windows and you should see several 'bolts' either torx head or flat head driver head (if the original ones were replaced). Just remove all these, and there are hard to get to ones behind the roll bars-find them all. If you have rear defroster and washer lines, those are all plugged in on the right rear of the inside corner. Carefully remove those and plug the washer line. Should be a cap for it. Now you can try lifting the cover by the door opening-this is a TWO MAN JOB, not for one person. If the seal is stuck you'll feel it tugging but it will come...and if it tears it's replaceable. If any bolts are left in-you'll know that immediately-remove them. Lift up the whole thing evenly and walk backwards and set it down on blocks.

That will never work. Its a Jeep, it doesn't have the power to throw the top off the back. You have to put it in reverse, get up some speed and slam on the brakes. First make sure there are some mt cardboard boxes to cushion the fall, or a matress. If I was closer, I would help her take her top off. Thats what gentlemen do.:D I agree that there is no way the body could hold the top on.

Thanks for all the input! I don't feel like anyone has actually solved my problem!-- I want to know opinions on whether or not I should attempt to take the top off, and/or what could happen... Or if there is anyway to tell if there is pressure pushing on the top.. Hope someone can help!

The guy who did the work seems to think the body is being held in alignment with the hard top.

You did not exactly say what the problems was. You titled the thread top won't come off then as if any pressure was holding it on.

The fiberglass would have cracked if the tub was not straight or you would have air and water leaks
