Hey everybody have a couple questions. I have a clink when going over bumps and the steering is a little tough to control in really bumpy areas. I traced it to a really bad bushing on the track bar. When i replace the bushings do i need to realign the front or can i just drop the bar out and replace the bushings and pop it back it? No wobble or vibrations i can notice at any speeds so already aligned pretty well i assume. Also do i need to lift the jeep up/support anything when i pull the bar out. Thank you all in advance. Also how do i figure out what track bar i have? I bought the jeep used less than a year ago and dont know what parts are in it lol... working on that slowly, i ask because i noticed the O.D. differs from bushing brands and want to make sure i get the right size. I know its adjustable and there is some kind of lift idk though 🤔 been trying really hard to figure all this out on my own to only realize i dont know much 😳

Post a photo of the bar, we can tell you right away if it is stock or aftermarket. If it is stock and you want to stay stock, just buy a new stock replacement bar, not the bushings.

How did you figure out it’s the track bar? I have similar sounds and symptoms.

Just assumed when i saw the bushing i think is bad, i think its the drag link bar that has more play now that i just looked again. Need to find a decent torque wrench im hoping its just loose 🙏 . This is the bushing on track bar i think is bad angle etc doesnt look right to me.

Wish i had someone local in NH that i knew who could help... but i have no friends lmao 🙃 i also dont have a mechanic anymore as he passed away and i havent gotten any good references that "dont take awhile" while someone is explaining how good they are. I cant be out of a vehicle for 2wks when i can do myself over a weekend, i just want to get anything i need done taken care of before winter if possible.

What year is it? Looks like it might have one of the very old Mopar lift kits on it. That is not the stock track bar, it has an adjustable Heim joint on it. You have cam bolts for caster adjustment and a relocated aftermarket steering stabilizer.

Don't bother with replacing bushings, replace the entire component. For starters, I'd replace the track bar, the drag link and get some new TRE's on the tie rod.

To simplify adjustments, a sleeve adjustable bar is preferred by many.

A Crown drag link should be around $100 and the TRE's around $80.

All of the joints, from ball joints to TRE's are at risk from wear above 75k miles. You can have someone watch the steering linkage closely while you slowly turn the steering wheel back and forth while sitting in the driveway. You can usually identify a bad TRE or drag link that way. Sometimes it will even expose the bad joint on the track bar.

Im definitely feeling the more i look around w the advice given that most of what im dealin w is the drag link... it rocks quite a bit now that ive been looking at it more (obsessed lol).

My father in law and i spoke he reminded me of a good guy who will look through it for me. Hes a good guy I know him from looong ago idk how he slipped my mind. I have an appointment w him in less than a week.
Thank u so much for the advice really helped me understand more. I will keep everyone posted on the report i get lol. fingers crossed nothing too expensive as Ive been laid off for sometime now and the budget is only getting tighter. I love this Jeep and it rides really nice tbh even w all things discussed... would break my heart to have to give it up.

Also, it's tough to see in the photo's, but it appears you have virtually no travel between your jounce bumpers and bump stop pads... Can you take a picture of the front springs so we can see it better?

This is why i want someone local that knows what they r talking about to take a peek at it and go for a ride... imagine all paranoia washed away "its suppose to do that" lmao 😔thank u so much for ur time and patience. This is a long term investment and want to make sure all is well for long term. Its basically a daily driver w some logging roads and some farm land (rough) sliced in dependent on help i can offer my friend. I feel like the clink is more repetitious than b4 and more noticeable only reason i figured wear somewhere was happening and should be addressed as to not cause more issue. Working on phone harnes now... good lord i ran over my phone to boot lol, would be my luck though so making sure secure 😁👍apologies accepted for forgiveness of grammar and punctuation in advance 😄

Ok, that's an extended jounce bumper... Probably about 2" longer than stock.

So, that confirms to me that you have a spring problem. An inexpensive fix would be the newer Mopar 2" springs... 77070091 rear and 77070096 front. The rears are about $70 each and the fronts are about $35 each. Around $200 for all 4.

You can survive with the bump stops you have once the new springs are in, but they are too long for the shocks you have. Replace the front track bar... Replace the drag link if it has play in it. Have a pro check your ball joints and TRE's.

Are you going to go with bigger tires? If not, another option would be to find a Jeep shop and see if they have stock suspension laying around and can put you back to stock. Springs, track bars, bump stops, etc.

So if keeping the stance the same(ish) ride etc what shocks would i need if too short for new springs? Plan to keep the 33 tire tbh seems like a good balance no need to go bigger for my needs. Also should I replace drag link and track bar after these adjustments or any particular order i should approach? I feel like paying to go back to stock would be a double boot to the teeth tbh.

Yes there are and thank you i hope the same, career change would b nice as well tbh. Not a ton of good stuff in my area at the moment (cov19) etc but they do pop up. I feel w a little patience my "amazing" resume and a sweet reference from old boss i should be alright provided i keep my head up and keep my feet moving. Im only 34 so plent of time to beat myself up in life left, just not over this these things happen and im wise enough to know better i like to think.
