How do you paint coil springs?

Anyone ever paint their coil springs? If so, what type of paint did you use and what is the correct process? I'm thinking it would be difficult to get it evenly over the entire spring

So anyone know how to do it? Pics?

Take them out and paint as you would and other metal part. Clean, scuff, (prime if really rusty) and spray with metal paint (rustoleum or the like). Nothe, if you are thinking about doing it some other color than black, and rust that developes is really going to shoy My neighbor did lime green (don't ask) a year ago and not rust spots are pretty obvious.

Since the springs flex and paint that isn't well adhered will flake off due to the flexing, I'd make sure to do an adequate surface preparation. To me, that iincludes priming them first as Neil mentioned above. And if you can find it, use automotive self-etching primer that adheres to steel better than standard Krylon or Rustoleum primer does.

One thing I did was get two old metal hangers, cut and bend them and hang them from a tree or the like.

I sanded mine, used self etching primer, and then use a IPC (Industrial Protection Coating) brand black gloss paint two coats and went over evenly while following the twist of the coils to get both inside and out. And the still look brand new.

Hmm, even thou I'd never pull my springs to paint em, why not dip em instead of painting em?

Just thinking something like Plastic Dip would work. It says flexible, takes a beating and comes in colors. Might hold up better then plain old paint.
