Run a drill bit through the center. The tumbler will fall out and you’ll get to open it. Then all you gotta do is find a new latch assembly. I need to find one for mine.

 

I'll try that as a last resort. I was hoping to get the lock out in one piece, take it apart and try to repair it.

 

Take it to a locksmith... he'll pick it in a couple seconds

 

A bogota rake will open it in seconds. They're cheap locks.

Are you sure it’s broken or it just won’t turn? I thought mine was broken when I got it but I shot it with some powdered graphite and it’s been fine since.

Three times I had someone in the middle of the night just yank it up. No damage done but but I could see him on the video just pull up on it hard.

It will turn with some jimmying of the key. The spring is obviously broken or missing. All I want to do is just open it without damaging the console or the lid. Not interested in spending a lot of effort (driving to a locksmith) but didn't know if there was a "trick" to pry it open. If all else fails I'll do the "snatch it open" method and hope for the best. I'm sure there is all kinds of valuable treasure hidden inside there...lol.

 

bust out that HI lift jack............pry it open.


give it a good jerk.......at worst you gotta get some hook and loop pads to hold it down. if the mechanism and lock are already worthless, whats to loose.

 

I've had mine yanked open many times. Just lean forward from sitting in the back set and give it a good pull on the middle of the front.

 

Mine wasn't even that hard - a bit of pressure on the lid towards the rear/hinge and it would open right up.

 

Lift up on it some, then slide your finger in there and touch the wedge portion to release it. Done it before. Friend showed me how easy it was to get in there. This is why I lock valuable things in the glove box and not the center console.

Stuck lock

Press on button and yank up and down, spray with wd-40. It will open.

 

Life is so much less stressful when nothing locks! The lock on my center console works, but somebody ripped the screws from the hinge side... Probably after they got tired of trying to fiddle with the lock side of the arm rest. The holes for the screws in the plastic lid are all ruined. I can't get anything in to re-attach the lid to the hinge. I am not ready to spend $$ for a new lid right now.

The lock on my glove box locks and unlocks, but I can open it with it locked just by tugging on the handle. I leave nothing of value in the TJ.

From what I have seen with opening my locked glove box, it sounds like the advice above should get you into your locked console fairly easily.
