Was looking at inventory, and the JEEP build site, and see the MOAB special edition package. Looks like it is a great package. Any one get or order this package yet?

I have a late 2018 model year JLU Moab. Its basically a Sahara loaded out w a bunch of Rubi bits. Power Hood, Steel Bumper, Off-Road Tires.

I suspect you will get a lot of "just buy a Rubicon". If your planning any offroading do that. For me this was more an everyday road driver but I like the Rubicon look and functionality. I sacrificed offroad capability for the leather, and more mannered on road suspension and drive train. Kept the look and feel. Happy as can be with it so far.

As I roll around with the 4:1 transfer case, sometimes it seems like it is a bit too low. The moab is a sweet package! It is just enough special edition to hit it's niche. Some special editions are just sticker packages. There is a bit of meat here with the bumpers, rails... etc. Tires are always junk on any new car.

I received my ordered Rubicon last July, if the Moab edition would have been available when I ordered then I probably would have a Moab now. If I were purchasing now and for how I actually use my JLUR I would choose the Moab. It would have to be white because that is the only color I like with the matching hardtop (my personal preference, other WILL vary).

I liked the looks of the Moab package because of the Selec Trac, Steel Bumpers, Hood, tires, wheels, etc...

Would be more suited for my driving environment more so than the equipment on the Rubicon.

Not to sound like Debby Downer, but I think the Moab is a waste of money.

It's got awful tires. KM2 which are dreadful AND they are the old 255/75 size so they are more narrow. It doesn't have front/rear lockers like Rubicon. Heck it doesn't have a lot of the equipment the Rubicon has. Yet, the price tag is insane.

I think you're better off buying the Rubicon if you want to hit hard core trails and the Sahara if you don't.

Take a Rubicon with steel fenders, lower the front fenders, remove the Rock-Trac and replace with the Selec-Trac, remove the 4.10s and replace with 3.45s, then add the Infotainment group, painted HT, Body Color fenders, LED lights, leather interior and voila you have the MOAB.

It's the JLU equivalent of my '17 Chief. Take a Sahara, add Rubion hood and wheels (Recon in my case), add most of the desired goodies as standard and you have a good special edition. It just doesn't have a unique paint scheme and adds better bumpers. Oh, and it's 10 grand more than my Chief was. If I was in the market for a JLU, I would definitely be tempted, but I'm not.

You have to think the upgrades mentioned total to more than the markup for the Moab.

I too own a Chief. My Rubicon became a hassle once I got 125,000 miles on it. Too frequent failures on it to drive it around with the family on hockey and baseball road trips.

It will be interesting to see what other Editions are released. If and when I upgrade to a JL, the Selec Trac was an option that appeals to me, but did not want to get a Sahara. Moab seemed like a nice alternative.

More versions the better. I don't care if they make a Barbie edition. They seem to have a nice spectrum of packages on the Wrangler anymore.

Makes sense. Scratch the itch = sell more Jeeps.
Barbie Edition... was wondering if that was a thing, did a search and...

As already said, I believe the Moab is the best of both worlds.

You get the sexy Rubicon looks (and that is mostly testosterone sexiness, since most women prefer the Sahara looks), with the Selec-trac t-case. So you get the best looking, but also the most urban friendly wrangler ever built. Especially for winter conditions.

If the Moab would have been out when I bought my Sahara, I would own a different jeep. Even if my wife prefers the Sahara[emoji41]

Cheers.

But, inside it is a Sahara. Just has better outside bits.

Since it has decals on the hood, it will probably not be a short term special edition like my Chief was (only 3,600 total produced with a very short order window). I am still getting comments on my Chief, even had a fellow ask permission to take a picture.

I just built a Moab and a Rubicon (as identical as you can) I did not opt for any color match(s) on the Rubicon. I believe the Moab is.
Moab : $54,485
Rubicon: $53,305
about $1,180

Select-trac not cheap but, Rubi has 4.10's and some other stuff. Close enough for horse shoes or hand grenades.

Wow,, $53K for a nice JL. In Cal you can add about 11% in tax and reg so just under $59K. Any extended warranty or mod will put you at $60K+. I am in sticker shock. No wonder people look at my 14 JK.

Jeep had a MOAB package back in 2013

FWIW back in 2013 Jeep had a MOAB package. That's what I went to the dealership to purchase but my wife saw a Rock Lobster Red JKU Sahara and vetoed my plans for the MOAB. The next year I special ordered a 2014 JK with the Polar package. I chose the Polar package because that was the only way I could get Hydro Blue Pearl. There were very few differences between the MOAB and Polar equipment wise. Both packages were optional on the Sahara. The one option that stuck out on either package was that you could order a rear locker like on the Rubicon rather than the LSD that came standard. Back then most optional equipment packages like the 2 mentioned above could be ordered with the optional rear locker. If I remember correctly, the locker option was and additional $!500 dollars over the standard LSD. I stuck with the LSD because I couldn't justify the additional cost of the locker. Since I haven't been in the market for a Wrangler lately I don't know if that is still the case or not.

At least by 2015, the LSD was a $495 optional item on the Sahara. Of course on the 2017 and 2018 Sahara and Rubicons, the LED lights were standard and are now an optional item on the JL/JLU Sahara and Rubicons.

My dealer has a Moab. The two things that stood out to me were how little the tires are on that model, and those rock rails are interesting. On one hand, it's nice to have rocker protection that doubles as a step. But on the other hand, those things are SLIPPERY. Even with tennis shoes on, it was like stepping on ice. I can't imagine the wife liking them at all.

There was a Rubicon sitting next to it for $3,000 more. I know where my money would go.

That's why I passed on the Mopar step/sliders and got the ones I did - MaMa said "No". Fine with me, She uses them. I step over them.
