Yes and no- there have been threads about JWS tail light housings cracking (not covered under warranty), and there have been threads about knock-off lights not having enough contrast between the brake lights and parking lights. There have been threads concerning of a number of aftermarket tail light options not fitting 100% without gaps between the housing and the body of the Jeep.

You pays your money, you takes your chances (so a vendor with good support and a decent return policy would be the way to go).

Hey there TrailRecon, I've really enjoyed your other videos and this one as well. You're really good at it.

Good and fair job comparing the two.

Around July, I bought a set on Amazon with the U-box name. I had to wiggle them around a lot to get them to fit, and the included screws got rusty quickly. (I plan to buy some stainless screws and paint those black.)

My biggest problem was that the parking/tail light function was almost as bright as the turn/stop function, making the lights dangerous----driving at night with the lights on, someone else driving behind can hardly tell when you're slowing or turning. I noticed your lights don't seem to have this problem.

I hope to add some inline resistors or something to somehow get the tail light function to be dimmer.

Man, sorry to hear that.... I'd probably loose my mind if parts I bought started rusting. I hope you can get is sorted Thanks for the comments!

More Chinese manufacturers stealing US intellectual property.

Sorry I'm not going to encourage more theft of US jobs.

Great review - the side-by-side comparison and the lux meter especially.

Great review! Honest and fair to say the least. My choice? JW Speaker all the way. I just can't support any company that copies designs that were developed by another manufacturer. I always like to support products made in the USA as well.

do we know that for sure?
what exactly did they "steal"? LED tail light designs are fairly simple, you could DIY a basic one up in a matter of hours...
you sure JWS does not just source theirs from China?

These have not been out that long, if any of my customer's housings cracked I would be sure to push JW for a replacement or at the least get a replacement sent out while we handled the return.

I would bet the ranch that if a US manufacturer produced the same look-a-like tail lights that they'd be found guilty in court of any patents JW Speaker hood on their lights. A consumer would be clearly confused by the two sitting side-by-side and the brand of JW Speaker is tarnished by the cloned tail light. It doesn't have to be a nanometer-by-nanometer copy just close enough to cause confusion. Things like the light channel and the look aren't something you come up with by accident and are very easy to patent.

Don't like patent laws?

I work for two employers who have legal staff that spend a great deal of their time defending our brands and IP. They haven't lost one in the many years I've worked with them yet there's new cases weekly/monthly.

I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but isn't "brand Confusion" more of a trademark issue?

no, you come up with them by necessity... and as such it seems quite probable that anyone attempting to "solve" that problem would come with with a similar or even identical solution...
hardly original or revolutionary in any way. it isn't rocket science... it is just a tail light...

lets be honest here, the real question is actually "Do you like artificial monopolies based on imaginary property laws..."
and the answer would be no...
monopolies are bad... always ends up screwing the consumer, or in the case of pharma, killing them...
so, yea, I am not really a big fan of that...
the best you could say about patents is that they keep lawyers employed...
besides, most "patent" issues are more of a failure to execute issue, coming up with the idea is easy, successfully building it to a price point the consumer wants is hard...
(unless you are based in China, then it is super cheap to build anything)

they apparently haven't really won either, or they would be able to stop wasting resources on silly lawyer crap and get back to doing real work...
unless of course they are "Non-Practicing Entities" aka Patent Trolls, in which case suing people is their "work"

hey wait a sec, that evil ProgRockPaul completely got me off topic, so back to my original question:
How do we know the JWS isn't just a Chinese piece, maybe (probably?) made to JWS spec...

**** these people. Another china garbage company stealing designs from American ones. These bastards don't deserve to sell in this country. They can't design shit on their own and just rip off others. I was thrilled when I read that they dispatched the Marshals Service to SEMA to show those commies the door.

Well to be fair you are SomeWhatLost! :happyyes:

If I had purchased a set (still on the wish list), I would appreciate that.

All the more reason to buy from an authorized dealer with good customer support rather than Amazon- might cost a few bucks more, but totally worth it when problems arise :thumb:

I got my JW tails at a good price so i went with JW. No problems so far. Fitment wasnt as perfect on one of the lights but it did fit well. Brightness seems to be pretty good on them too. No issues so far but Ive had them for only a month so guess time will tell if they crack

JWS on my rig and ALWAYS purchased from a reputable source like Ben @RubiTrux or Rick @Quadratec and there are other supporting vendors here on WF.
We support them and they support us.

Nothing worse than something goes wrong and you are swinging in the wind alone with nobody at your 6.

Agreed- got my JWS headlights from an authorized and supporting vendor- great performance, great price, lightning fast shipping, and their reputation/support on the forum is comforting compared to the few dollars that could have been saved buying JWS on Amazon or going with a knock-off.

The commie ones have the same issue I've read complaints about before of other china junk tails: the difference between the parking lamp and brake/turn isn't as much as the JWS. The non-drilled out hole is hilarious. Such junk.
