I picked this up off eBay and mounted my shovel and my Quick deflator on it. I dont have a picture of them mounted right now.

 

Did you have to drill holes to mount that?

 

Sorry for the delay, no I didn't, I used some rummer clamps and bolted them to it using a piece of metal behind it to clamp it to the rack.

 

Here is my first attempt. The Quick Fists are attached with cable ties.

I mount my shovel right here in my tool bag. There's a throwing tomahawk but I keep it by my front seat close to the billy club in the front driver side door.

 

I have two shovels mounted.

It's actually a custom hood rack made by WranglerAddict on this forum.

 

thanks for the tip.....can you give a 'field use' report on how it rides, etc?
I've been reluctant to mount anything in that position.

 

So far my shovel just rides in the back of my JKU. Looking for more permanent (and secure) solutions myself. I got a Garvin roof rack about a month ago and may try to figure out some mounting options for that. I look forward to reading what different options everybody else is using.

What i gathered when searching for my set up.

 

I might be beyond stupid, but can't seem to find the ''clips'' (??) used to hold the axe/shovel .. Any clues ?

This is exactly what my setup looks like. My wife bought it from Dominion Off Road and it has been excellent. It keeps the jack, ax and shovel out of the way until I need them. I mounted a Molle rack on the back door and keep my recovery gear there with a first aid kit and a machete.

Im glad you found what you were looking for. The first picture with the axe only is my on my Jeep,im thinking of adding a fire extinguisher- a big one

- i bought the molly folding table from Ebay ($110), then i ordered the axe($25) and fist clamps($10) from amazon.

- For the molly table you have to drill 4 holes with approximate 1/4" drill bit- screws are supplied. It rattled a bit from the 2 pins that hold the folding part because they were loose a bit inside. Simple fix was to wrap electrical tape around pins to make it thicker and sound free from friction. Its doind its job well. But now ive seen a new product from Springtail that requires no drilling and pins are fixed which does not require taking them out when folding the table part. I would highly recommend the set up from Springtail. It comes with molle bags and its about $200 all together. I ve seen a guy doing pretty good review on Youtube. Here is my set up. I have a fold up shovel in that cubby where the jack is as well.

 

Thanks for the photos and report on install. Always a difficult choice to make with so many variables to consider.

While I like the roof mounted position, of concern of stuff breaking loose under various stresses both on the trail and in traffic 'loss of forward motion' events'.

Still like the notion of tucking them away somehow.

 

All of the set ups look pretty, but has any one ever ran into a situation that couldn't be handled by a flip saw that fits in your glove compartment, vs. an ax? Flip saws cut faster, and with less effort.

 

I haven't had to use mine yet. Sorta looking forward to the day I have too and sorta not.

 

I spent about .46 cents on some velcro straps. The net was just up there to give room for the other gear I had for my outing (its usually down) I couldn't justify spending more than 25 bucks to hold items in my jeep that I would only use every once and awhile. I have not used my ax and shovel for recovery either, just filling sandbags, wood chopping, and other field craft type stuff.

So if I am looking to attach a shovel and axe with the Quick Fists to my tailgate do I screw them into the metal directly?

 

I just used Quick Fist attached to the High Lift. No drilling required and easy to remove when the jack is needed.
