New Falken Wildpeak R/T

It's no secret if you read some of my tire posts that I really like the Falken Wildpeak tires. Their MT is the go to tire for us at the shop when a customer is very sensitive to tire balance or radial tire pull issues, etc. They just work, every time without fail. And the Wildpeak AT3W is the top all terrain on the market today in my opinion. I recommend them for virtually all A/T applications and have them on my personal Nissan Frontier.

Now they have the new Wildpeak R/T and it looks very interesting. Going with the common geometric interlocking center treadblocks and more traditional shoulder blocks gives it the common hybrid look of todays R/T tires. With a 50k tread warranty, 30 day ride guarantee and a wide range of sizes and load ranges, this tire could be a HOT one for Jeeps.

Particularly love the 285/75R17 in a load range C and the 35x11.5x17 also in a load range C are very desirable for many multi use applications. The 315/70R17is a load range D as well, same as I run today. I had been leaning towards BFG KO2's in LR-C, but that 35x11.5 might just change my mind.

Can't go without mentioning the 38x13.5x17 for those going up from 37's but not wanting a 40...

Nice sidebiters too....

Go check them out! https://www.falkentire.com/wildpeak/rt

I hope all is well with you and yours!!!

I had a short love affair with the Nitto Ridge Grappler a few years back until our monsoon season hit and we had some greasy wet roads and I came to realize they are great EXCEPT for when it's wet.

The KO2 and the Toyo A/T III are still great tires and even the Yokohama X-AT is an excellent performer. Of course these are all tires worthy of a Jeep and offroad applications while still keeping the 3PMSF rating that makes a tire remarkably versatile. What better than offroad cred with ice and snow performance too? The Wildpeak AT3W does it all.

The extra ruggedness of the Wildpeak R/T sure has me thinking though. I'm not too far out on tires for my JKU and replacing the 35 Patagonias that have been pretty good to me. But I'm going to go back to an A/T or R/T tire next go around.

I tried to buy these from you guys two days ago. I was told by a Rep on the phone that "we don't have them in our system yet so I can't sell them" and also "they aren't going to production until summer". So sadly I had to buy them elsewhere and that hurt my feelings. Lol.

I have these in 35x11.50R20. They run small. They are 34.5" tall and only 9.5" wide off the wheel. So once mounted they'll probably be around 33.8" tall. They don't have the 3-peak mountain snowflake. They also don't have rim protection. For such a new tire in this segment I'm disappointed. They weigh 64 lbs. Load range D. That part is nice.

Having said that the tread pattern is nice and I will be reviewing these on the OFFRD channel starting Friday. Getting them installed tomorrow.

Had a set of Standard Load Falken Wildpeak AT3W's on my 2019 Toyota 4Runner OR and my 2006 Nissan Frontier SE. They were OK but I probably wouldn't buy them again. Had 2 on the Toyota replaced by Discount Tire (using the insurance certs) for sidewall cuts and punctures.

I'm looking for a set of tires to put on my new to me F150. I plan to go with SL rated 285/70R17 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's. I have the LT MT's in the same size on my Jeep and have been impressed with them.

Great looking truck!

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on your experience with the Wildpeaks and would like to say thank you for choosing Discount Tire for your tire and wheel needs.

The Baja Boss's would look pretty sweet on your F150, if you would like to look into pricing or availability please let us know, we are happy to assist here on the forums!

This is fantastic! Another 34” in load range C. This is the year to rid myself of the stock BFG MT’s on my Recon and this gives me 2 options to choose from. Slim pickings still though! I wish their AT3W came in a LR C but the Toyo does so that is my other option.

#12 ·
It's great. IMO 285/75/R17 LR C is the best size for the JK. Not too wide or heavy, but still tall enough for great clearance. With the BFG KO3's release being immanent (upcoming Chevy and Ford trucks have them), I'm very excited to see if they will follow in Falken's steps and offer more LR C sizes as opposed to only a handful of 33"+ LR C tires and a majority of them being their still and heavy LR E tires.

Had them mounted on my truck today. Though it is not a Jeep, I am still a Jeep guy and I will post pictures here just so that you guys can see the tires in person.

Mounted on 20x9 wheels, these 35x11.50 tires measure 34.0" on the truck. Tread is 9.25" wide. Section width mounted appears to be around 11.0". They run small. Weight was 64 lbs. per tire. Load range D. Noise is very very minimal but we'll see if they get louder after rotation in several thousand miles.

Been driving on these for about 400 miles now. Rain traction is great. Hydroplaning resistance is very good. Mud traction is great. On dry pavement they hummmm but it’s not loud yet. Only issue I’ve got is that there’s a wobble/oscillation in the truck above 50 MPH. The DT store employees DID align the yellow dots with the valve stems which from what I understand is how it should be, BUT then the spin balancing machine called for all the weight to be placed at the valve stem on each wheel. Odd…. Anyway, I’m headed back there this coming weekend to have them put the tires on the road force machine and get numbers for me. If one or more tires has high numbers I will call Falken on the phone and see if they’ll honor their 30 day guarantee.

Other than that, these tires are performing very very good so far. Wet nasty conditions don’t seem to phase them.

Thanks for keeping everyone updated on the new Falken Wildpeak R/T's! We are happy to hear they have met your expectations through various conditions, sounds like you're on the right track with the store, the road force machine should be able to correct those minor hiccups!

Let us know if we can do anything to assist.

Just to keep this updated, so I went to Discount Tire and specifically asked them to give me road force numbers for each tire. Not only did they not give that information to me, they didn’t correct my issues either. Added ½ ounce of weight to two tires, so essentially my problem is unresolved. Vendor I bought the tires from wants this specific information for possible warranty replacement of the tire(s). Guess this coming weekend I’ll try a different tire shop and see if they offer any better help. Other than this vibration at higher speeds the tires are continuing to perform flawlessly with excellent traction in nasty weather.

I love the at3w’s on my truck. They are great in the snow, but I have found them a bit lacking in wet weather. And living in the PNW we get a lot of that.

So far I’m really liking the Duratracs I just put on the Jeep. They don’t seem to slip and spin at all compared to the truck.

Having said that, there’s a huge difference in power and weight distribution between the truck and the Jeep. That’s probably a large part of the difference in handling and grip.

The gf has newish KO2’s on her truck and honestly I like those a lot too. Seems like it’s hard to go wrong with any of the main tires everyone generally gravitates towards.

3 good AT's for sure... The Duratrac's are great when new, but in my experience they deteriorate faster than most of the newer tires. And they can become howling loud as they get worn. The KO2's are a great all around tire. I still prefer the AT3W's here in AZ. We don't get tons of rain, but when we do our roads get oily slick and the AT3W bites better than anything else I've tried in an AT.

Bummer that you aren't getting resolution. Tires can be funny that way some times. I've got some new Hankook's on my Equinox and after about 1000 miles I started getting a significant vibration above 60 MPH. I took it in and they spun them all and said none of them needed anything. Remount on the car and smooth as can be again. Nothing changed. You should be able to get the road force numbers for sure...

I’ve heard they get louder as time passes, but the Duratracs are brand new right now. If they go down hill as time goes by, next I’m gonna try the KO2’s on the Jeep.

I really like the falkens for snow and ice duty, but it rains too much here for the questionable wet weather performance.

And again, the differences could absolutely be because the falkens are on a truck and not a Jeep. I really have zero complaints with the falkens other than wet weather handling.

What load rating did your Fakens have? My previous 2 sets of Falkens were SL rated which is more or less a passenger car rating. I thought those were great in the rain and so so on snow & ice.

I think I've read complaints of their heavier rated (C & E) tires being poor in the rain. I ought to have some feedback on that in the next year or so.

Just an update on my tire search for my Ford F150. I was chatting with a friend during a Super Bowl party who has a Gladiator. He put new wheels and 35 inch Nexan MT tires on his Gladiator not too long ago. He offered to sell me his OEM tires and wheels (4 each) for $500. He said he maybe had 3000 miles on them. I took him up on it, so the Ford is getting LT285/70R17 C Rated Falken Wildpeak AT3W's.

Standard wheels on the F150 are 20's. However it has an 18 inch spare on it. I haven't decided what to do with the spare. I may try to find a steel 17 inch wheel and either put another Falken AT3W on it or just go with a cheap Westlake AT tire.

I should have some pics, next week of the F150 with leveling kit and Wildpeaks on Ford Raptor wheels.

Ha, when I was getting mine installed I called my buddy and we were BS’ing. I told him what I was doing and he said he had an appointment at Les Schwab for the same tires two days later.

I told him how much I was paying and he flipped out. He had me get a quote for him and Discount Tire was literally a bit over $700 cheaper than Les Schwab for his tires and the shop was able to get the tires the next day for him!

As I was making his appointment the manager just chuckled and said that was pretty common :)

So here's what's up with my Falken R/Ts...

I went to two large tire shops before I could finally get any hard data. So from what all the tire shops say, 0-15 lbs. of road force is a good tire. 15-25 lbs. of road force is a borderline bad tire. 25+ is a bad tire.

One of mine checked out at a 52 (!). Another was 27. The other two were around 20ish. So it's no wonder my truck was shaking going down the road!

Unfortunately I ordered them online, so I'm having to go through the hassle of trying to get them warrantied via long distance communication. It's a real PITA. I will buy from local tire shops from now on simply to avoid this hassle.

It's a shame these tires are squares because I love everything else about them. They look great and the traction has been amazing in heavy rain, mud, etc. On the road they stick like glue. I just wish they were round.

So the vendor I bought from (BB Wheels) doesn't want to reimburse me for the $85 I paid for road force balancing to get the information THEY wanted in order to start a claim. They also want ME to cover shipping the faulty tires back to them, wait 4-5 weeks without the use of my truck for a resolution, then pay out of pocket for them to ship me two new tires. Absolutely unreal. I will never buy from them again.

Unfortunately, Discount Tire says they still "can't get" this tire even though they're for sale all over the Web, so whereas they would normally help me in this situation that's not an option.

So I'm being forced to try and work with Falken directly. They have a customer service rep who is being helpful and is trying to find a resolution for me, but it's complicated by the fact that the tire is so new and therefore inventory is low and also they don't normally handle warranty claims directly. Usually it's done through tire dealers.

This is the last time I'll buy online. From now on I'm going to brick and mortar stores only.

I want to reiterate that other than the out-of-round issue on two tires, I love these Falken R/Ts otherwise. They look great and the traction is wonderful and load range D is the perfect weight for a light duty 4x4.

Amen to that! Some things are fine online but if we bought everything online, brick & mortar stores would disappear. Then when we want something "right now", we'd be out of luck and awaiting shipment.

Good Luck, L.M.

File a complaint on them at the Better Business Bureau.
Title it they sold me Square Tires.

#41 ·
I called them again and they said that Falken advises that the tire is released now, but they sold out of inventory immediately and now there's a national backorder until late spring 2023.

I wonder what are the odds of Falken doing a warranty replacement on these R/Ts and selling me the A/Ts instead?

@Discount Tire is there any way you can check and see if there is ANY availability of this tire in 35x11.50R20 that you can find? Falken says if you guys can get me two of these tires, I can have one of your stores do the warranty swap for me. That's my best bet.

My Discount Tire store searched the entire nation and found 2 tires for me. They are doing the warranty swap for me this evening, despite the fact I didn't buy THIS set of tires from them. Hopefully these two new tires are good.

Falken Corporate out of California has also been very helpful. Even had a manager call me last night and check to verify that tires had been found for me.

What we've learned so far:

Discount Tire is amazing.

BBWheels will never get my business again.

Falken cares about customers.

Great news!!! I hope this fixes your issue. I've always had great support out of both Falken Tires and Discount Tire. I have only bought 1 set of tires from another store than DT in the last 15 years. It was on my work vehicle (Equinox) and I was on the road, way away from my home base and it was because I had a damaged tire right about the time they needed to be replaced and it happened where there wasn't a DT location. I was bummed... But the support has been decent from Walmart.

#49 ·
Well now that that is solved, at least until the replacement tires are found out to be square, as well...

Here's pics of my F150 with lift and LT 285/70R17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W C rated tires.

I started doing Business, with DT, back in 1974. I was responsible for a large fleet of trucks, and had a meeting with Bruce Halle the Owner, just as he was opening up a new store. A very nice down to Earth person. He died a few years ago, and was the richest Man in Arizona. I have been doing business with DT, ever since. They will meet, or beat any competitors price, offer a outstanding Road Hazard warranty. And IMO..their service is second to none.
