Greetings, I just joined. We just purchased a 212 wrangler jku Sahara. All appeared to be good. No noticeable issues. No rust, warning lights, just not very clean underneath. I have been doing my due diligence in checking it out more carefully.
Changed all the air filters. Checked and topped off all the fluids, etc. decided to take to the local quick change oil place to change the oil. Again no lights or warning on the dash. Oil change done and now I have the oil warning on the dash. It only comes on at low idle and goes off while driving.
I did a search on google for this issue and possible remedies. I replaced the oil filter with a new one (maybe they installed the wrong one) no change. I used a fram filter. Not a molar, if that makes a difference.
My thoughts lead me to believe that the oil pump and or the oil pressure sensor might be faulty. It’s just strange that this might happen right after an oil change. I should add that the miles on the jeep are 210,000. The oil before I changed it appeared new. The dealer that I purchased from specialized in jeep wranglers and is respected and trustworthy in the area.
Any ideas would be helpful. If I need to replace the oil pump and sensor that’s fine. Just don’t want to waste money chasing a problem. Thanks.

Suggest taking a close look at the valley where the oil cooler sits to see if their is a pool of oil there. If there is oil there, I would suspect the cooler may have been damaged when the oil was changed. There have been a lot of reports of the coolers "cracking/breaking" if the cap on the cooler is overtightened when changing the oil - that or it just got brittle and broke due to age.

My bet is that at some point the oil filter / cooler housing was changed to the newer (2014 and up) style. This would mean that the 2012 style oil filter would be incorrect.

Post a picture of the part number on the filter housing - it is typically just below the cap in the area circled below:

Make sure you check the housing for any obstructions as well. Use a strong flashlight. Look for an old O-ring down inside the housing...just in case.

Open it up and get us a picture of the inside with the filter removed and the filter you used.

Get the filter @Old Dogger posted in #10 in this thread and install that. The oil change place installed the wrong filter and driving with it can damage the engine. Let oil change place know, they screwed up and and he very least reimburse you for the botched oil change.

Once you determine if the newer version works make sure to mark the cap with the correct filter number for future reference and/or if you need to have it serviced somewhere that might make the same mistake again.

Success, replaced with mopar 2014 oil filter. Installed easy as a breeze. No excess pressure to tighten the cap. Fit right in. Started, drove around the block. No lights, no issues.
Well done and thank you for all your help. I’ll be looking forward to many more helpful responses from you all!!!
Thanks again. And yes we do have two dogs. A rescue one eyed beagle, and a ferocious west highland terrier!!!

I had a very similar problem with my 2013 and it was just a sensor in the end. I believe it was the Crankshaft position sensor. Simple part to purchase and install. Fixed the problem in 15 minutes after spending days looking at so many things, we figured it couldn’t hurt to try, since it was a $25 part.

I’ve had the same issue several times over the years. 2006 Rubicon Unlimited. 140,000 miles. Tried everything. Code readers showed nothing. The light has always just gone away on its own.
