No more hood flutter in the wind.

I was sick of the hood flutter on the highways. The wife nearly passes out everytime a huge truck passes by and the hood starts bouncing. Not to mention in Southern Alberta, we're known as Chinook counrty, which means Windy, windy, windy. Like 100 km/h winds. So I was looking into buying the Daystar hood latches for $25 which seemed like a great deal. However shipping to Canada is $67. Not such a great deal.

So I removed the hood spring, and did the tie strap mod, and abracadabra, no more hood lift!!! Cost me $1.25. I may have to replace the strap every so often, but it's cheap and it works. It doesn't even look too bad. Highly recommend this mod if you ever find yourself out on the highway.

Thanks. It's just wrapping a tie strap around your hood latch to the point where it is loose enough that you can still open the latch, but tight enough that it won't stretch in the wind. I think the Daystars are just a shorter version of the stock ones, so this just mimics what they do. Just a lot cheaper for me.

If shipping would be cheaper, or some were available locally, I would have bought them. But this little trick works for me.

Here's a closer look so you can see what I'm talking about from a different Jeep thread, but I put the little fastener latch on the inside so it looks a little more 'stock' and clean.

OK cool. Thanks. I thought they were just shorter, and thus had less give. The straps take away the flex very much the same.

Here's apic of the Daystars vs the stock ones someone else posted..

I would have gladly bought those. $25 is a steal for a good part but shipping to my area is crazy. Just under $70. I'll keep looking though. I don't think the tie straps will hold up in the winter here when it hits -45*. They'll just snap. But it will do for the summer months and trips to the mountains. We can see the Rocky Mountains from where we live but we actually have to drive almost an hour on the highway to get to them. And like I said, some of those Semi's flap the hood something fierce when they go by. I guess I could check ebay or something similar to see if anyone is shipping for cheaper than Quadratec. I want a pair before next Winter for sure. But in the mean time, I'll put a bag of 11 inch tie straps in my console.
