I do not know if this is because something has been added under my dash or all are like this? Went to use my analyzer on the OBD2 connector the other day and the connector snapped out of the holder and dropped on the floor. 2017 Wrangler 2 door. Anyway I got it snapped back in the holder.

Today I see it out again and flopping around on the floor. LOL back about 10 inches or so in the harness I see another connector, same as plugged into the harness, like someone added something and it trailed up under the dash?

So is everyone else's like this or do I need to trace this out and see whats going on?? Will try to attach a crappy picture of under the dash.

If I’m seeing the picture correctly you have an aftermarket OBD splitter and something is connected to it. Some people do that with an aftermarket stereo setup to see OBD info/gauges on their head units. Could also be an alarm system, tracking device, or some other accessory. Definitely not stock though.

John I will try to trace it back to see where it goes. To my knowledge there is nothing aftermarket on the Jeep. Thanks for posting.

Any chance it could be some sort of tracking or monitoring system??

Is the car financed? I read on here recently of a finance company that installed a device on the OBDII connector.

This was a used Pre Owned Certified vehicle. On the windshield there was a orange sticker saying something about a protection against thief system installed and it was part of the sales package. I asked and they said it could be removed IF I did not want to purchase for... $995! I said no.

When I was presented the purchase agreement it was still added in, I said Remove so they did and re-figured the total. A couple other corrections and I came back the next day with the Cashiers check, and yes it was a cash and trade deal, No financing.

This tag picture attached is under the hood, did a Search and nothing came up other than Gov stuff?

Interesting. It appears in the photo that there's still is something plugged in there -- it could be an OBD extension from the splitter and they just removed the actual tracker at the other end. Or they didn't and it's still there. Most of those trackers use a SIM card to communicate to a web server somewhere. If it's still there you could remove it and see if you can use it yourself by resetting it and putting in your own sim -- but it depends on its brand and how it's setup. If you google OBD2 tracker on Amazon you'll see a lot of them. Tell us what you find!

On high end cars, I've seen illegal (in the US) devices that connect to the CAN-BUS via the OBD2 port, and act as a "man in the middle" so that the mileage displayed on the odometer is less than that reported by the PCM. They are usually hidden up in the dash. But I don't think a JK would be a target for this type of fraud.

OK It was a GPS tracker and its out now. Link to PDF manual https://fccid.io/2AEB4AMV01/User-Manual/Users-Manual-3928375

Called the dealership they said that those devices are suppose to be removed but this one did not. Hey a 76 old guy who used to crawl under aircraft dashboards (50 years ago) got it out. Looks like a nice setup.

Just bought the Alpine i207-WRA radio unit that plugs into the OBD2 port. However, I was also eyeing a Pedal Commander and wondered: does anyone have an aftermarket head unit using the OBD2 port, a splitter and a device such as Pedal Commander which works all together without throwing any codes or screwing the computer? I've read you can use for AMP steps and other things that functions only when in use, but the radio and Pedal Commander is basically running all the time. Yea or Nay?

ODB II plug for your HU is to allow steering wheel button functions, read and display vehicle data, etc. Fast forward to 1:15 to see a description of functions.

Some used car places use those trackers (that one is also a disabling unit) so if you dont make your payment, they can disable the vehicle until you do and then track and tow it as well.
